Fastlane - Cool & unintentionally funny

Anyone else see this? Very entertaining show. It's from McG, director of Charlie's Angels, and it's like Miami Vice meets Fast and the Furious. The main actor is a virtual clone of Tom Cruise. He looks like him and more importantly, his voice and mannerisms are EXACTLY like the Cruiser. Especially when he's doing the patented Cruse "exasperated shouting/pleading" act. His acting is so similar that it becomes hilarious.

Beyond that, the show goes down pretty easily and accomplishes what it sets out to do. It's funny, action-packed, oozes visual style, and the story (at least in the pilot) was a well-paced, somewhat inventive take on the ol' revenge partner's death story. Definitely worth watching.

BTW, Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Jennifer Sky (Cleopatra 2525) also star in the production.

I live in Canada. In addition to nudity and swearing, our stations sometimes get to air TV shows a day early.

Hmm...

Use of Music: Good

Everything else: Bad

You know, while I'm thinking about it, name another TV show that used gratitutious sex and language - without a purpose!!!!!!

Excuse me... gratitutious sex and language that was presented for no other purpose than stupidity.

The Sopranos is a notable exception to this rule.

I felt like I watched a 1hr MUSIC VIDEO.

All I could think ,while watching this show, was "thank god McG is not directing Superman"

I don't think the storyline was explained very well. Who were the guys in hockey masks and why were they doing what they were doing? Who was the guy on the beach talking to the lady and why were they involved together? Nothing in this episode made me care about the characters at all. From the 3 seconds he was on screen, I would have rather had the guys brother who got killed as the main guys partner instead of Bill Bellamy. They tried to push too much into one episode. I didn't mind the directing. It just needs a more fleshed out storyline. They just moved this from one action scene to the next with as little plot as possible required to call this a tv show.

Betcha Michael Bay was watching this saying "Hey...I could make movies like this!"

Oh...wait...

Sex & violence on TV are never gratuitous.. Their presence is reason enough.

And that's a good point about the hockey mask guys. I never really understood why they busted in either. It doesn't matter. I just found the collection of scenes to be interesting and some of the dialogue/situations quite amusing (jail scene.. mystical negro quip, etc).

BTW, when it comes to making flashy, MTV-esque fare, McG eats apples off of Bay's head.

for a show that is targetting the "fast and the furious" crowd.. the slow motion doesn't make sense...

I really liked it. I think that the rest I liked it so much was that based on the commercials, I was expecting this to be a clone of Miami Vice. While it is similar, it has a lot more humour than I thought, and I liked the story. So far, so good for this show, IMO...

I liked it too. Sure it isn't going to win any Emmys, but it is a nice diversion for an hour. Different than pretty much any TV show on today. I could watch this show for the music and eye candy alone. I hope they have a soundtrack for the show. West Wing will still be my can't-miss show in this slot but I will record Fastlane if I am watching West Wing live.
