Have A Fried TiVo Modem? Read This.

For all of you unlucky DVDtalkers who have had your TiVo modem take out, and haven't heard already, there is a way to hook up an external modem:

External Modem Success!!!

With the new television season fast approaching, I thought this would be helpful to all of you who were considering sending it in for repair, or even possibly getting a new unit. Mine took out last week and I had it up and running in a matter of minutes for zero cost.

For those who are adventurous and have a home network, try getting the turbonet ethernet card....the latest version of tivo's os has all the necessary drivers...all it needs is a dhcp server on the network . Then you can get all your tivo updates over the internet

My room-mate just got a Tivo and the stupid thing makes the 'test call' fine but fails everytime on the 'daily call.' I don't see why they call it a 'test call' if its not really testing what the usual call requires.

Anyway, we're gonna get the ethernet card and see what happens.

I've had my TIVO for a year now and it runs just fine.

mr n, tell me about it! Despite tivo's warnings, I'd been using a wireless phone jack for a very long time. It would work perfectly during normal operations but if I ever had to reconfigure the setup, it would fail almost every single time during the test call.

One of the things that just made me get the network card hehe.

I'm sure Otto can point you in the right direction for Tivo information.
