Bionic Woman poised to return to TV
Found this on yahoo news:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...with_team_todd -=-=-=-=-==- LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Jaime Sommers, the first female cyborg, is ready for a 21st century makeover. USA Cable Entertainment is developing a remake of Universal TV's 1976 series "The Bionic Woman" for USA Network with producers Team Todd attached to executive produce. Like USA's new series "Monk," which is getting a second run on ABC, there is a possibility for the new "Bionic Woman" series to get a second window on a broadcast network. " 'The Bionic Woman' is an old title that is ripe for reinvention and therefore it fits well into our franchise-with-a-promotable-hook strategy," USA Network executive vp series and longform programming Jeff Wachtel said. "One thing that's special about it that is different than our existing series is it's really an action show, and that's something we're looking for." USA, which is garnering big ratings for its new drama series "The Dead Zone" and "Monk," hopes to repeat that success next summer. "We'd like to launch two more series next summer, and we would love ('Bionic Woman') to be one of them," Wachtel said. The original series, which ran on ABC for a season and on NBC for two seasons, was a spinoff from the hit series "The Six Million Dollar Man." In the show, Sommers (Lindsay Wagner), Steve Austin's one-time fiancee, gets bionically reconstructed after a nearly fatal skydiving accident. The operation gives her superhuman powers, which she uses in dangerous underground missions for the government. Sisters Jennifer and Suzanne Todd of Team Todd, hot off the success of "Austin Powers in Goldmember," said they were huge fans of the original series. Like in the original series, the new Sommers will be tall, athletic, blond and blue-eyed. And with the new "Bionic Woman" set in the present day, she will be a result of the latest technological advancements. "We are going to take advantage of the fact that what seemed beyond the realm of reality back when they did the original show -- some of the things in terms advancement in prosthetics and in replacement limbs -- are real in true life now," Suzanne Todd said. "I think the idea that they exist in the world today and people make use of them -- not in a superhero way the way that Jaime does -- is going to allow us to do something really interesting and very different than the old show." Like the original series, which was one of a wave of shows involving comic book-style superheroes brought to TV in the wake of the enormous success of "The Six Million Dollar Man," the new "Bionic Woman" is part of the current resurgence in comic book superheroes on the big and small screen with such hits as "X-Men" the WB Network's "Smallville" and the upcoming features "The Hulk" and "Daredevil." Team Todd is closing in on a writer for the show, which it will shepherd with its vp television J.J. Klein. The Todds' TV credits include the Emmy-nominated HBO telefilms "If These Walls Could Talk" and "If These Walls Could Talk 2" and a Muppet series in development for Fox. In addition to the three "Austin Powers" movies, other Team Todd feature credits include "Memento" and "Boiler Room." Team Todd's deal was brokered by WMA's Mark Itkin and Renee Kurtz and attorney Michael Gendler. |
That's good news. I just hope they dont make it as cheesy as the original was sometimes. I loved the old show but watching a few of the Region 2 DVDs recently, the show has not aged well.
If done right this could be cool. Will Maximillian be in it too? Fembots? |
Does anyone remember when Sandra Bulloch was the 2nd Bionic Woman in that TV movie with the 2nd "$6 Million Man" that was Steve Austin's son?
|
Cool - I'll check it out. But I love the cheese of the originals, too. :)
Speaking of which, I'd give a whole heck of a lot for Wonder Woman to be released in season sets on dvd. :D But I doubt I'd like a remake nearly as much of WW - it was my absolute favorite show. Bionic Woman was good but not great when I was a kid, so a remake now sounds quite fun. |
It sounds really great and I have some of the region 2 dvd's. Cheesy, yes, but that's part of it's charm.
What I hope is that they don't change too much from the backgrouind info of the original show. That she and Steve had been involved and all of that. I'll definitely check it out. |
Patman-
Yes, I do and yes, I actually watched it back in 88'. Steve finally proposes to Jammie ( Hey, I was a kid when the original series was on and I liked it...My roommate at the time was an even bigger fan) TV movie wasn't that good but I was happy to see Lindsey and Lee reprise thier roles. I forgot Sandra played the new bionic lady...Good Memory, Pat!! |
And as for the ACTORS....

I wish my memory remembered useful stuff. It's just filled with silly trivia.
|
Patman - but that's what makes you so special! :) BTW - I still say your the father of Scully's baby. ;)
|
Now that is not trivia!
Wait, did someone just call me "special"? Awww... |
Very special!

According to the BBC, they have cast the new Jaime Sommers for the new "Bionic Woman" pilot for NBC. The actress is Michelle Ryan.

Didn't realize that there was a thread about this already on the Movie Forum.

I used to love the old shows too. They are cheesy now and the stunt doubles are clearly seen but you can't forget The original fembots before Austin Powers got ahold of them.
I look forward to the new show. It looks good. |
Thanks for the link. The show looks interesting enough.

I also watched it when it originally aired. I had a major kid crush (minor adult crush) on Lindsey Wagner.
As for the Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man, I still haven't gotten over the two part Big Foot episode (SMDM). From the tiny clip I saw of the Bionic Woman, it seemed a dark and edgy, but it was tough to glean anything from a 5 sec clip. Could be cool ... or not. |
NBC has a full trailer up. Looks pretty darn good. Can't wait to see the Jaime vs. Starbuck fight! ;)
|
^ yeah I think this looks better than I expected. I'll give it a shot in the Fall
|
Hard to believe, but Ione Skye's clone....errrrr, Michelle Ryan is a Brit. That's a pretty decent American accent she pulled off in those clips.
|
Why did they have to cast Anne from Arrested Development as the sister?
|
I've been watching Michelle Ryan in Jekyll on the BBC. She's smokin' hot. That alone is enough to get me interested.
Not sure about the sister though. Really? HER? |
