LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael J. Fox is planning a TV comeback, but not necessarily in front of the camera.

The 41-year-old actor has proposed writing and producing a new show about a superstar hockey player who's forced to retire early and spend more time with his family.

Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, left the ABC series "Spin City" in 2000 to spend more time with his family and lobby for research related to the ailment.

ABC is negotiating with Fox's Lottery Hill production company to feature the series in its lineup, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety trade papers reported Thursday.

It was unclear whether Fox would appear in the new series. His disorder, diagnosed in 1991, has resulted in symptoms including shaking, spasms and loss of balance and coordination in recent years.

The actor, who won an Emmy for "Spin City" and three others for the 1980s sitcom "Family Ties," recently wrote the best-selling memoir "Lucky Man."

After starring in the "Back to the Future" movies and "Doc Hollywood," Fox performed voices for animated characters in the "Stuart Little" movies and Disney's "Atlantis: The Lost Empire."

If this gets picked up, I hope he'll appear in front of the camera once in a while (if he's up to it of course). I was never crazy about Family Ties, but enjoyed him on it. And he was what kept me watching Spin City when Jennifer :drool: Esposito wasn't on.
