Real World Rules

As many of you know MTV is having a Real World marathon this weekend, and as I watch it, I'm thinking "how do they get that shot", or "how could they let them record that" So what Im asking is, does anyone know the rules of the show? Is there a website out there that has them? I'd like to know why the people do the stuff they do when they know it's being filmed. Unless ofcourse they are all actors and most everything is scripted. If that's the case I'm gonna sign up :)

I can't understand how they can do all this with the cameras around.

Joxer 08-03-02 07:21 PM

That's what I'm saying. For example, if you're watching the marathon today, Rachel said to the camera "Ya I got a fake ID" Then they showed her using it to get into a club. Can't they(The police) use that footage as evidence and arrest her?

Also, why would these people have these conversations about their housemates when they know they(the housemate they are talking about) is going to see it. So that's why I want to know the rules and stuff. I know they have to pretend the cameras aren't there but really, if there's a camera in your face are you going to tell someone that you secretly are inlove with someone else in the house?!? That's why there's a nugget of thought in my head saying "it's fake, they're actors"

After a while, you just forget about the camera people in the house, and just focus your anger (of a housemate) to another housemate. The camera people become like white noise, it faces into the background with time. Or it's like your olfactory sense of smell that acclimates to rotten smells after a while.

One of the very few times that the Real World crew had to make a hard call on a roommate was when Ruthie was driving while intoxicated. That sort of violated the "Don't go hurting or placing your roommates in jeapordy" clause that all of the roommates have to sign to be on the show.

Joxer 08-03-02 08:18 PM

ok, here's another question. Does anyone know if they pick people to be on the show who live in the city where they are filming it? The next show is being filmed in Atlanta (where I live) and I was thinking about sending in an audition tape.

Venusian 08-03-02 11:35 PM

the people act this way cuz thats how they'll get camera time. first mtv picks people with issues to start with. most also have huge egos and need screen time so they act weird to get it. look at matt for new orleans, he was pretty normal and therefore got little screen time

Joxer 08-04-02 12:56 PM

Do they air the eps as they film them? Or do they film for the 6 months and then air them after everyone goes home?

BDB 08-04-02 01:19 PM

they film them and then air them later. the newest one has been shooting in Vegas at the new Palms resort since Feb I think.

It could be finished already, but the airdate has been announced as Sept 17th.

Giantrobo 08-05-02 08:48 PM

When does the REAL WORLD TORONTO MOVIE air?

Patman 08-05-02 11:30 PM

It comes on tonight at 9 p.m. EDT.

whitetigeress 08-06-02 01:02 PM

Unfortunately, they don't usually pick people from the cities where they are filming. Think about it. You would be leaving all the time and what fun is that to watch?

Patman 08-06-02 01:32 PM

Kyle was sort of from Chicago, and he was on the Chicago edition.

What was bizarre was the Seattle edition when they picked 2 guys from the same place, VMI, and they supposedly knew each other.

They also casted 2 guys from Atlanta for the New Orleans edition.

Melissa and Brian? from the Miami edition were from Miami.

Wasn't one member (Ruthie?) from the Hawaii edition from Hawaii?

whitetigeress 08-06-02 03:01 PM

Atlanta---is not the same city as New Orleans..

Ruthie was from another Island actually. So, not quite the same

They were really pissed about Melissa leaving quite often. I remember reading an article about this.

I don't remember about kyle though. You would think that he would have been showing the roommates around if he was from chicago?

1. The police wouldn't use this because they just don't care. Even though it's on video you could claim the tape was fake anyway.

2. The confessionals are not shown to the other people in the house. The finished episodes are not aired untill taping is over.

I don't think the show is scripted, I would say something on camera about a roommate because they wouldn't hear for like 6 months, but anyway haven't told a friend something about another friend, and then he told the person you were talking about what you said, it is like the same thing, and the new season is in Vegas not Atlanta. Kyle went to school in Chicago (Princeton I believe is in Chicago)

Wow, and all this time I thought it was in New Jersey.....

Patman 08-09-02 09:37 AM

Kyle's family lived near Chicago (remember they went for a visit at his parents' summer home).

Giles 08-10-02 08:19 PM

What's up the Vancouver episodes they sound scripted and downright fake, this is a joke, right?.....

Patman 08-10-02 10:03 PM

It was a spoof.
