Deep Space Nine
can someone give me a brief synopsis of what happened during this show?
I watched the first couple of seasons and then shows sporatically throughout the rest of the seasons. There was a war involving Klingons and Cardassians and Romulans at one point (who was fighting whom?) and then there was a war with the dominion (who started that) and how did it end (i forget if i ever saw the final episode). |
straightforward
Enemies in order of progression. The circle (Bajoran coup), the Maquis, Dominion, Klingons, Dominion. Simply the Dominion sparked fear throughout the Alpha quadrant. Caused the Cardassian goverment to be overthrown. This caused the Klingons to invade Cardassia. The Federation opposed and the Klingons broke the Kittomer accords. Later Cardassia joined the dominion and the war started. A little over a year into the war Romulans joined with the Federation & Klingons to stop the Dominion. Series ended with the end of the war and Sisko joining the prophets in the celestrial temple. Startrek.com has complete episode sysnopsis. |
Well done Strife. Very succint and to the point. I couldn't have done better. This thread reminds me of how much I miss this show. :(
I can't wait for the season DVD sets to come out next year. :) Chris |

Like a fine wine, this show just got better and more robust as it went on. This truly was Must See TV. I'd be up for some DVD's. |
DS9 comes to TNN in 2004 as well.

Also, Odo went back to the changlings as a self proclaimed amassador and Gul Dukat started banging the Bajoran spiritual leader. He beceame some demi-god or some nonesense like that.

The eight so episodes leading to the Finale were pure gold. The finale itself was garbage.
How I miss "All Good Things.." |
Originally posted by Tesiae How I miss "All Good Things.." "5 card stud, nothing wild. And the sky's the limit..." I did like that DS9 homaged TNG at least with its zoomout from the port window. Voyager just ignored it completely. If I had to rank the finales it would be TNG, DS9, VOY in that order. Man, Voyager just totally ignored all theoretical logic of how time travel works. Starfleet should've been a mess after all the tinkering. |
That just shows how poorly the writing was in Voyager. Every single week in seemed like they were running into a temporal anomoly. Voyager is the biggest reason to use different writers on the show. The same people doing the same crap over and over again. I didn't even watch the last 2 seasons of Voyager because I was so incredibly tired of the poor writing.

I can see where you all are coming from about the finale of DS9. But I just think they had too much story left to tell to jam it into a 2 hour finale. They easily could have stretched the wrapping up of the war out to a 2 hour movie all it's own. Same goes for the final showdown with Dukat. I think that would have worked out better. But I guess there's no sense in being a monday morning quarterback now, years later.

I liked the final episode quite a bit. Yes, it's overwhelming, but after all that, sheesh! what would not have been? how could they have made the final show exciting and packing punch like All Good Things? The show was far too arc filled, with too many plot points. They couldn't wrap them all up in two hours, and they couldn't just wrap up one of them in two hours. I still found it to be an excellent finale.
But hey, you can all think differently... we're all DS9 fans, and that's what's important. My favorite show on TV ever! :D (others could have made it if they didn't hit suck before they ended...) |
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. I think DS9 was the best of the bunch.
I can't wait to see how TNN puts together "theme" marathons. Like the "Wesley going thru puberty" themes, expect a lot of Vic Fontaine stuff... -rolleyes- |

We were lucky with TNG because his ideas were filtered and improved on by writers who were actually GOOD.

By far the best of the Trek shows (so far)!
I love the little things that would just grow over time, like the relationship between Odo and Kira. I remember the episode in the 2nd or 3rd season where they were stranded on some planet when their shuttle crashed. (And thank GOD they got away from the exploration stories after the first few seasons!) Odo was trapped by some organism that slowly grew from the ground to his head, but Kira couldn't release him. Thinking he would die, he told Kira he always loved her. Then she said she loved him too! I screamed at the TV! I couldn't believe they were going to have these characters hook up, especially like that. Of course "Kira" turned out to be the Founder-leader chick that was trying to woo Odo back to his home. I was hooked at that point. The last 2 seasons were a real joy. The character development was off the chart. Most shows can't create, much less sustain, 2 real three-dimensional characters. What did they have at the end of DS9, like 25 characters? My favorites were Martok, who grew from friend to foe to friend again. But my favorite character, at least in the way his character evolved, was Damar. He started as a simple henchman to Dukat when they both essentially started the Cardassian/Klingon war. He kills Dukat's daughter, takes Dukat's place as Cardassia' military leader then becomes a pawn of the Dominion. His emergence as the rebel-savior or Cardassia was so well-crafted and brilliant. I actually get chills when I think about his plea to the people of Cardassia to rise up against the Dominion. (What a geek) Maybe I'm a sucker for anti-heros who redeem themselves only to be sacrificed, or maybe I just happened to be lucky enough to watch DS9. |
Not to thread crap; but I really enjoyed the first and second season. I don't really remember the rest, but was not impressed with the final eps of either ds9 or voyager.
I was hoping voyager would have stayed lost, then move to the big screen when tng retired. The idea here is that I like the writting of the movies so maybe that would help voyager. |

I'm glad, I'd hate to see my favorite show linked with my least favorite show.
That said, I didn't mind the Zimmerman stuff, since he was a good part of Voyager. |
so whats with section 31?
|
You do not talk about Section 31.

Does Channel 44 ever show DS9 from the beginning? I would like to set up a season pass on my D-Tivo, but I want to start with the first season.
TIA, Ian |
