The '12 Angry Men' Episode

No show can resist the allure of the '12 Angry Men' episode. They may escape it for a few years, but sooner or later, they are bitten by the second most overused plot device in the history of television drama (the first would be the "flashback" or "clip" episode). So let's start a list. I'll go first:

Matlock - 'The Juror'
The Dead Zone - 'Unreasonable Doubt'

There are countless others. How many '12 Angry Men' episodes can you recall?

"Happy Days" - Fonzie and Howard were on a jury together. Fonzie, of course, was the lone holdout for acquittal.

"The Odd Couple" - I think Felix and Oscar were both on the same jury in one episode.

"Family Matters" - Urkel and the guy-who-used-to-be-the-star-of-that-show.

"All in the Family" - The votes were 11 for guilty and one dingbat for not guilty.

Honk!

There was an episode of Picket Fences ("System Down") in which Sheriff Jimmy Brock was the holdout who aquitted a man of killing several police officers with an automatic weapon.

Malcolm in the Middle just had one this season.

There was one in The Simpsons as well (Homer deliberately deadlocks the jury in order to get the free hotel room).

O.J. Simpsons starred in a courtroom show in the mid-nineties that got high ratings.

"The Andy Griffith Show": Aunt Bee is the only juror who thinks Jack Nicholson is innocent of burglary.

Edit to add: It's episode #223, "Aunt Bee the Juror"

"Charmed" had one recently where Alyssa Milano was the lone holdout because she somehow knew the person had been framed using magic or something. I recall this vividly since there was 2 times I tried to watch this show last season and this was the episode that was on both times.

That was Nicholson?!?! I immediately thought of this episode, and had no idea it was Nicholson that did that. Not a bad ep., also gave us some insight into the governmental structure of Mayberry and surrounding area that I found interesting.

Good grief did I just say that?

Yep, it was him. It's just about the only color episode of the show that I actually like. He was in another episode the season before.

From IMDb.com:

"Andy Griffith Show, The" (1960) playing "Mr. Garland" in episode: "Opie Finds a Baby" (episode # 7.10) 11/21/1966

"Andy Griffith Show, The" (1960) playing "Marvin Jenkins" in episode: "Aunt Bee, the Juror" (episode # 8.7) 10/23/1967
