TVography: The Wonder Years (7/1 A&E)
 

I know there was a few fans of the show in here so I thought this might be of interest.
A&E's TVography is focusing tonight on Wonder Years @ 8:00p and replayed at midnight. Fred Savavage, Danica McKellar , Olivia D'Abo, Josh Saviano and others are featured in interviews.

I'll be watching.

God I loved this show. Hopefully reruns will start coming on again, soon.

That "Goodbye" episode with the teacher, Mr. Collins, gets me everytime.

Dammit that episode w/ Mr. Collins gets me as well...why'd you have to go and mention that. I was in high school during the peak years of the show and still watched it thru the last season...which I believe was 1992.

Wish I would have had a hottie in MY french class :(

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It was an interesting look back at a great show, and it was nice to see what the cast is up to now.

Now if we could only get season sets on DVD.

I thought I would never believe that "urban legend" about Josh Saviano growing up to be Marilyn Manson....but....I don't know.

Yeah, what was up with Saviano? He looked like a crack addict.

I watched this too, loved the show. But, they said the show was on from 88'-92. How is that six seasons? I know the first season only was like six episodes, but how do you fit five more into three/four years?

Also, wasn't "Kevin" 11 or 12 when the show started? And wasn't he 17 or 18 when it ended? If so, that's six years of aging, but the show was only on for four years? Well, anyone know how this is true?

88-93. According to this page, it was five seasons.

Edit: The episode guide has 6 seasons. The first season was only 6 episodes so it doesn't count as a whole season...

I still hate Winnie with a passion. She teased poor Kevin to death. Kevin should have gone after that hottie Madeline. She wanted him so bad.

I got you beat. I missed the "Wonder Years" thingee.

AND I missed last Friday's "Farscape."

I will now be taking up a collection to buy myself a Tivo.

Any and all pledges will be accepted.

Incredibly moving, as are the other episodes that involve establishing Mr. Collins's character and the profound life lessons he reservedly imparts to Kevin.

My three other favorite episodes are:

-Junior High graduation: When Kevin walks past the playground of his childhood, and flashes back to when he, Paul, and Winnie frolicked there as "youngsters". The scene is extremely evocative as the moment in everyone's life when he realizes the carefree days are behind him.

-Winnie breaks her leg: Kevin and Winnie, now going to different high schools, are at an impasse in their relationship. The denouement, where Kevin is inexorably drawn to Winnie's bedroom window, his eyes well up and he whispers "I love you", is transcendently heartrending. Brilliant acting from Savage. I think at that point in the show's history (circa season 3) he was at his best. In the beginning he was too inexperienced, and towards the end (post-pubescent) he was too self-conscious.

-Going to work with dad: I love how the show conveyed a young boy's admiration of his father's grown-up "coolness", at a point in his life when adolescent indifference hadn't kicked in yet.



The biography special was a nice reminder of the show. I'm glad to hear that the cast members still keep in touch.

My DirecTivo doesn't have any future airings of the Wonder Years one. A Cheers one is scheduled for next week.

From the website, it looks like none of the TVographies are scheduled to be reaired through the end of August. Not even the ones from last month. Kind of odd, because I know regular Biography gets replayed on the weekend.

No kidding. Although I could never figure out who annoyed me more over that- Winnie for teasing, or Kevin for putting up with it. Man I wish I had those kinds of problems at Kevin's age. Actually, I would have been happy just to have someone that looked like Madeline in my class, and wouldn't even care if she knew my name. :drool:
