you can probably get it if you threaten to cancel otherwise, you will probably have to commit to staying with them for a period of time though

Because the device costs $300 to make and MSRPs for much more than that. The "deal" is to give you something insanely cheap so you'll buy from them in the future. While I'd LOVE to have another DirecTiVo for $99, we're hardly getting screwed.

That's not true. At the beginning of the year current subscribers had the opportunity to buy as many DirecTivos as they wanted for $99 each. Which is why they are so rare now.

Be aware that Orbitsat is not considered a very savory operation. There are many horror stories with Orbitsat charging large amounts to the credit card used and claiming that it is due to "contract violations". Purchase at your own risk.
