HGTV question
Caught a show yesterday about a landscaping challenge. It was a couple looking to transform their yard into a garden but their problem was mainly with gophers. A landscaper planned it out and their yard was transformed in one day. Any idea of what the name of this show is? I'm thinking it's similar to the concept of paying the show a budgeted amount of money and HGTV takes over. I tried looking on their website but there are so many shows to sift thru!!!

Most likely, that was Surprise Gardner. They do it all in one day and then bring out the owners, have them uncover their eyes, and, surprise!

Ah yes, HGTV.
The most painful station on the entire television dial for me to watch. So much exquisite architectural porn to wallow in and me without two pennies to rub together. It's like a designer lap-dance where you can look and drool, but no touchy! Why was I not born with a trust-fund in my name? Why? Oh why? |

I think they've got a new show called "Landscaper's Challenge" that may have been it.

If the couple was involved with the decision-making process and went shopping for items for the yard with the designer, it was probably "Landscaper's Challenge" (the outdoor version of Designer's Challenge).
But if the yard was transformed and one of the homeowners came home to a new yard as a surprise, then it was probably "Surprise Gardener" (the American version of the british show Ground Force). HGTV has several fun DIY/transformation shows, like Designer's Challenge (3 designers compete for a room redo, homeowners pay for it all), Designing for the Sexes (Michael Payne mediates a design that makes both spouses happy, homeowners pay for it all), Before and After (follow along as a couple renovates their home, all shown in a half-hour), Curb Appeal (architect and/or landscape designer come in and help a homeowner revamp the outside of his/her home, homeowner pays for it all)...and there are more. My favorite HGTV show is House Hunters, though. On House Hunters you follow along as a person/couple/family looks for a new home, then you usually get a peek as to the changes they made when they moved in. If you like the HGTV and TLC DIY shows, check out the Brit DIY shows on BBC America - Changing Rooms (the original Trading Spaces), Ground Force (the original Surprise Gardener), and House Invaders are all fantastic, and a ton of fun to watch. |
I love this channel. I caught a show on it once, called "Ultimate Garages" and it was amazing what people do to their garages when they have oodles of money coming out of their ears. "Ultimate Pools" was another good show.

Turns out it's called 'Surprise Gardener'. I'm sooo hooked on this channel even tho I can't afford to do many of those projects either. Worse yet is they don't take on any of those challenges unless you live in LA. Will they ever run out of people who want free work done on their houses/gardens?

This channel is becoming a pain for me. my wife LOVES it and watches constantly, especially Christopher Lowell. she even dares turn away from the NBA playoffs/Finals to this channel!!! :D
chris is funny though. for people in the bay area, did you notice Susan Blake has her own show here? she used to be a local news anchor. that's quite a change! |

I do wish that they had more episodes where the people got turned down, couldn't get enough financing, or any of the other multitude of problems that can come up though. My wife and I are "house hunters" right now ourselves and for a reality type show they leave out a lot of the harsh realities. |
