Twin Peaks: Worth my time or not?

I'm defintely way late coming to this David Lynch party. A little background first....
My first experience to Lynch was watching Lost Highway,/b> on home video not long after it came out. A friend of mine was really into it, and I watched it one night, though I have to admit I was pretty tired when I watched it. I didn't hate it, but found it very confusing. Unfortunately, I was not able to watch it again. It was several years until I saw another Lynch film, Blue Velvet. I liked it, but it didn't thrill me enough to seek out other Lynch films. It wasn't until watching Mulholland Drive that I was wowed. Loved that movie. So I began thinking back to Twin Peaks. I was either ending middle school or beginning high school when it came to TV, and I didn't watch it. Really didn't know much about it. But after borrowing a copy and watching season 1 I have to say I'm amazed.
Two questions:
1) Any firm date for season 2?
2) I know DDD was selling the pilot not too long ago. How is the quality of that disc and should I seek it out or wait for a region 1 release?

The pilot and first season of Twin Peaks are simply amazing TV.
It also has the hottest group of women ever assembled in a cast IMO.

The version of the pilot that came out on vhs and ld here in the US was what has become known as the "European version" of the pilot, which is basically a stand alone film version of the pilot that was shown in theaters in Europe.
There are two main problems with this version:
1. The actual vision that Mrs. Palmer has at the end of the "as shown on tv" pilot is excised.
2. The additional 20 minutes or so of footage added in its place does not gel with the continuity of the the show. This footage was meant to replace seeing Season 1 of the show to rudimentally tie up the mystery. True, a lot of the footage does show up later in Season 1 as part of dreams and what not, but the truth is that it doesn't make any sense to watch the European pilot and then watch Episode 1 of Twin Peaks. Major continuity problems....major confusion for first time viewers.
I have always hated the European pilot mainly because Mrs. Palmer's vision is cut, and I had never seen it since it was on tv..........until this dvd came out.
WB owns the pilot, but not the rest of the series, and I think that is why they have always released the European version of the pilot (the stand alone from the rest of the series version of the pilot) on vhs and ld. Since WB has not announced their intentions of releasing the pilot on dvd in the US (what version? when?) I highly recommend getting the current Region 0 version wherever you can find it. It's a shame it is no longer available at DDD, because that was nice and easy.
Hopefully WB will release the original pilot on dvd (as I am sure it will be better quality than the current release), but no one can tell if they will. It would be nice to have the extra European version footage as an extra, but not as the main presentation of the film. Seemless branching would be perfect in this case.
Only one branch needed to switch to the real ending scene, or to the extra crap.

Ten years ago (or so), this was definitely Must-See TV for me. The only show I'd watch and pick apart the next day with my friends. Too bad it was so short-lived though...
