Organizers said Thursday that the June 8 heavyweight championship bout between Tyson and Lennox Lewis likely will be the highest-grossing pay-per-view event of all time, with nearly $80 million in combined TV and attendance revenue.
HBO and Showtime, pay TV archrivals who are collaborating on Tyson-Lewis in an unusual joint arrangement, have set a record-high pay-per-view price of $54.95.
That breaks the previous mark of $49.95 for the notorious 1997 bout in which Tyson bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear (the price cable operators actually charge subscribers may be slightly higher or lower than the suggested price).
