Buffy question
I'm sure I could find this out somewhere, but I'm hoping someone will answer me.
I thought that vampires couldn't be photographed. I seem to remember some episode of Angel in season one where he couldn't be photographed. I think some photographer wanted him to model, or something. Anyway, why can the nerds catch Spike on camera? Magic cameras? because of the chip in his head? Anyone? |

Also, some folks take the mythos of vampires and add their own touch to it. Such as the vampires poofing into dust. They do that so that there isn't the worry of constant clean up after vamps are killed.

Thanks for your answers. I'm just sure that we've already established that in the Buffy-verse, vampires can't be photographed, but now we see them on video. I was just wondering about the inconsistency, but maybe the way the cameras work explains it.

In one episode, Spike was a model subject, and had people taking his photo in various spooky/funny poses (in black-n-white film stock IIRC).

I believe, that episode was entitled "Restless" at the end of Season 4, in which all the Scoobs had dreams. In Giles's dream, Spike posed for photographs at the circus. It was not real. It was a dream.

There was an episode of Angel where he was videotaped on a police survelliance camera, and those shots were outputed as stills.
I think mirrors are the only way vampires aren't seen, and that's more of a "mystical" thing. If you took it to the extreme, if there was a scientific reason for them not being photographed, then they you wouldn't be able to SEE them either. Just the mirrors... |
Yea, I don't remember where they said that they can't be video taped or photographed.

I'm willing to go along with ctyner's pseudo-scientific explanation.
I could swear they said something once about vampires not being able to be photographed. Given what ctyner quoted about camera's working the way they do, it's logical that they can't be captured on film either, but can be videotaped. It's all okay. |
Not all cameras are SLR's.

I have seen every ep of every show and I honestly do not remember them saying that.
If they did, then I can think of at least three examples off the top of my head that don't support that, so I doubt they ever came out and said it. |

I couldn't think of any examples offhand where that happened, but a quick bit of research turned up a couple of quick examples ("Helpless" and "Lie To Me"; in the latter, Drusilla is photographed, and after her transformation). |
Who was photographed in Helpless? I know Buffy's mom was....
