Jeremiah - 5/3/02

In an attempt to see how long it takes an empty thread to sink off the first page, I'm posting another thread about this show. Let's see what happens.

First, I must say ... jms still has it. Like everything he's been involved with, it started slow. I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 episodes, but they weren't anything super special. But slowly, Jeremiah has evolved into quite a compelling show, and apparently the ratings are still strong. I would wager that 90% of the initial audience was Babylon 5 fans who just tuned in to see the next jms project. If Bonnie Hammer's head weren't so far up her ass, she'd probably be frustrated with such information.

Anyway, this latest episode was very good. I like how they're taking the time to really develop Kurdy's character. Early on, he was just the cool sidekick, but he's become an interesting character on his own. jms recently posted how difficult this episode was to write, and now I can see why. And Kurdy's poem ... wow ...

I wear hope around my neck
Like a noose.
It's loose enough for me to breathe
What I need
To get me through the day.
And with each swagger and sway
Comes a new belief
That there's a new belief
Just around the way.

So I keep goin',
Halfway knowin' it's just a trick
My mind likes to play so I don't quit.
Or is it?
Maybe I'll never know.

Maybe I'll never go past
The dreaming that there's more,
The scheming that what I'm searching for
Is seemingly reminiscent to the folklore
That there's a garden paradise
Where I can settle
And never have to leave
Where I can breathe
Deep breaths
And exhale with abandon.
Maybe that paradise is wherever I'm standin' ... tall,
Believing in myself that I can conquer all the sadness
And all the madness and have a ball
Wherever I go.
Could that be the paradise I'm looking for?
Maybe ...
Maybe I'll never know.
Good stuff. And considering the way things went down at Thunder Mountain a few weeks ago, I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the season.

Definitely the best episode so far. The show is starting to hit its stride. Nice to see a sidekick that isnt the cliched one-liner spewing comic relief bafoon that were used to. The'yre actually taking their time to develop the characters rather than looking for new reasons to blow stuff up .
