For anybody who's never seen the show, you can get the first season for $8 at ddd right now. Anybody know how much extra footage is on the dvd? I couldn't find that info anywhere including the review here.

It sure seems like JJ barely even acknowledged Stan Lee was sitting at the same table with him.

I really didn't notice, I was just impressed that Stan kept up w/ the conversation and took part w/ it numerous times.

Pretty good episode. Abrams is much different then I imagined him. Jason Lee's forehead is getting big!

It's impossible to tell how these guys are really reacting to each other, since it's a couple hours compressed down. For all we know, Abrams spent 15 minutes worshipping Stan Lee's feet.

Great "geek-oriented" show, but Abrams did seem to be the "odd man out."

My wife is probably one of the few women in the country who knew who all five gentlemen were just by name.

TheMadMonk 06-20-05 08:59 AM

As expected, the thing I disliked the most about this episode was Kevin Smith.

Jadzia 06-20-05 09:16 AM

It was refreshing for once not to hear any "Swingers" or "Rudy" stories. :)

Stan's KISS story was interesting.

slop101 06-20-05 01:32 PM

Smith makes fun of Favreau for always talking about his movies (Swinger, Rudy, Marciano ect.), yet for half the show Smith was talking about Mallrats and Chasing Amy. What a little bitch.

My favorite part was Hamill impersonating Harrison Ford.

Mine knew them all but JJ, which is odd because she's a fan of Lost and Felicity. Still gets points for knowing Stan Lee and Mark Hamill by name. :)

That is a big reason why I don't like him. Yes, Favreau talks about the movies he's been in and has made, but that is the point of the damn show! Actors talking about the work they've done. Nobody tells Stan Lee to shut up about comic book stuff, that is what he friggin' does.

Oh come on, as soon as he started talking about Clerks he immediately said he felt like Favreau, "When I was making Swingers..." They have fun with it. That's all anyone does on that show anyway, is talk about their past work.

Jadzia 06-20-05 05:27 PM

I didn't mind hearing about Swingers at first, but it gets tired hearing about it every single show.

I didn't mind Smith talking about Clerks since at least it was stuff we hadn't heard before on the show.

I wish that Favreau would let other people host more often or have a rotating slate of hosts. It makes the discussion much more interesting.

Just caught the Olyphant/Mohr episode - that was great. I loved the Vince Vaughn story, it sounds like he is not acting in most of his roles. Could Mohr bust balls any harder?

Derrich 07-04-05 02:36 AM

Classic lines from the Mohr ep:
Rappaport: I auditioned for a part in The People vs Larry Flynt, but Ed Norton go the part
Favreau: He edged you out.

Rapporort: You're an asshole.
Mohr: I'm an asshole?
Rappaport: You're an asshole.
Mohr: Go fuck yourself.

Favreau: my production company is named Cock Diesel
Rappaport: Your company's name is Cock Diesel?
Mohr: I am gonna smack you in the fuckin' mouth.
Rappaport: What? I'm very gullible.
Mohr: There's gullible and then there's half retarded.

Mohr: Huh?
Rappaport:What?
Mohr: Where?

Mohr: I'm the highest paid reality show personality
Rappaport: But that survivor guy makes more than you.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here by saying... IFC is by far the best cable channel out there today.

Dinner For Five is just one of the reasons... Henry's Film Corner is great, along with all the Pulp Indie flicks. It's deffinatly been my go-to channel for a while now. Just great.

B.A. 07-04-05 10:51 PM

I loved Mohr's "there's gullible and there's half-retarded" retort.

They didn't really need to show Rappaport shoveling food into his face though.

Jay Mohr wanted to play Todd Gaines.

And the porno producer in The Girl Next Door...

Olyphant: I passed on it twice and they gave it to me...
Mohr: Yeah but I really wanted it!!!

Too bad Jay does not want to do television again, I would love to see another Action!.

I want an Action/Entourage crossover episode. Can you imagine a meeting between Peter Dragon and Ari Gold?

Quake1028 07-07-05 12:08 AM

Just caught the Milch/Rappaport/Mohr/Olyphant episode. Classic, classic stuff. Jay had me dying.

DINNER FOR FIVE (The FINAL EPISODE) = 2.1.08

Looks like we will be getting the final episode (episode No. 50) of Jon Favreau’s great talk/chat show tomorrow night at 10:30 PM on IFC. This is the first episode of the show since June of '05 so It is a very welcome surprise to find out its coming back for one more.
This will be in part to plug that new Vince Vaughn Comedy show thing that will be hitting select theaters soon
Guests include: Vaughn, Favreau, Justin Long (Ughhhh :wtf: , Peter Billingsley and Kier O’Donnell (WHO?).
I would have liked to have seen Faizon Love again. He always cracked me up especially that episode when he talks about Soul Plane.

Mittman 01-31-08 11:49 AM

Just watched the last episode on IFC.com and loved it. Was the entire series this good? I want to know if it's worth a blind buy on Amazon.

chris_sc77 01-31-08 11:55 AM

The entire series was fantastic. Hilarious, insightful and extremely easy to watch IMO.

Jadzia 01-31-08 11:57 AM

Thanks for posting this, I thought this show was done for good.

I loved the show, but I wish that they had rotated hosts after awhile. I eventually got tired of hearing all of Favreau's Rudy/Swingers/Made stories.

Kevin Smith hosted one epsiode (the one with Stan Lee, J.J. Abrams and Mark Hamill.)
I was hoping that he would take over for Jon Favreau because love hearing the stories that he has. I am a big Kevin Smith fan but I would rather him take over Dinner for Five than to keep making movie.
