Eco-Challenge NZ 4/21
Did anyone else watch this? I thought it was good, really good. However, I could've done without the "history" lesson between team eco-internet and team earthlink. And the other american team, Ive forgotten their team name, but its the one with all the rookies, except the "leader." What kind of leader makes her teammates carry her gear, even though she told them that that would be what they would be having to do??? Shouldnt it have been the other way around???? I sure wish they'd tell me why she was disqualified 4 hours into last years race. I saw the show, but have forgotten.
I really dont think the NZ team can keep their pace. That Ian guy from Team Eco-Internet is amazing in his abilities to navigate, and leadership. That idea to sleep away from everyone in a cave and basically "hide" out and sneak in in the morning for the rafting part of the race was great! Those poooor poooor Brazilian women!! Sure did pick the wrong guy!! I would like to see USA win. :) |
Started another thread at the same time....will kill mine.
Eco Challenge New Zealand 2002!! Did anyone here catch the first episode of the Eco-challenge last night?? Another Mark Burnett show... Team pureNZ.com is kicking butt, however, Team Eco-internet is always nipping at their heels. What is up with the Brazilian team (what a bunch of nagging biatches...) And that goes for the captain of Team Moosejaw. "I told the team that they would have to carry everything because I'm a lazy frump." |
[Chanadler Bing]Could there be anymore commercials![/Chandler Bing]

I really enjoyed the last one, and this one looks to be shaping up well. Its certianly a far more admirable reality competition than Big Brothers Survivor and so forth.
My problem with the NZ version is they seemed to have narrowed it down to four-five teams. I mean, there are what 30?-50? teams in the competition, but they for the sake of drama have narrowed it down to four-five teams. I'm sure the other teams have good stories but we dont even see them. Last year I seem to recall it skipping between more than that (but of course focusing on the leaders/whiners). Two things make absolutely no sense- the team from last year with the girl who slows everyone down, has problems in the race, but her ex-boyfriend decides to comete with her anyway. Why? She obviously is too big a risk... And, like you guys said, the team with the weakling captain. She keeps saying everyone needs a rest, yet shes the only one wanting to, and she cant carry a damn thing, has no control, skills. How and Why on Earth did she decide to become an adventure racer if she cant carry the minimum gear? I dont weightlift because I'm a skinny guy, and I dont midget wrestle because I'm 5'10. |
why she was disqualified last year. I do not know which two it was but here it is. One team they found out, did not know how to navagate, so they DQ right away. Or she was on the team that got lost in the sea, and the helicopter had to find them.

As far as the whole conflict with eco-internet and earthlink goes, they said that each of the four previous victories that eco-internet had were with different team members!! Why would the two that got booted be so suprised if they changed the team each year?? |
I taped the show last nite and watched it in about an hour.

Why would the two that got booted be so suprised if they changed the team each year?? On another note, has anyone noticed team "go" ?? I love this team...they are just regular guys, good friends from New York City I think. I would love to see them finish the race, Mark B even landed his chopper to talk with them awhile. They aren't in world class shape, aren't professionals, but they are having the time of their lives, getting along with each other, and making the Moosjaw and Brazil teams look horrible even though they are in last place. Keep an eye on them, my friends and I have dreamed of doing this for years and I like to think we could show that much class and have that much fun doing it. Jeremy |
A couple of those Team Brazil women are hawt :)
Sarah in Moosejaw is way outta shape, she probably should have trained a bit more for this event. And where's Team Spie?! They were at the top of the pack last year and the cameras aren't even following them around any longer. I loved those guys! |
Is it Jodie Foster doing the narration, or just a sound-alike. Whoever it is, it is making this almost unwatchable for me.

Last night I noticed in the intro they said it was something like 67 teams... Thats 268 people... Yet we've only seen about twenty people, with a real focus on five or six individuals, in five different teams.
Strange that they only have it lasting four shows, seems they could mine another night or two out of it. It definfitley only gets better as the race goes on and everyone is worn down but still facing harder and harder obstacles. I doubt the NZ team can last without sleep, they will get too sleep deprived and begin to make mistakes, probably costing them the race. |

I remember back a few years ago when they showed the Eco Challenges on TLC or Discovery(I can't remember which) There used to be a whole lot more episodes. They would show them all in order and then do like an all day marathon when they weere done. I liked it much better then. Damn you USA network.

Whopping 2 hr finale tonight... I am very peeved at USA/Burnett, in the little teasers before they go to commercials (not the after-the-show preview) they clearly showed one team member saying [spioler]"I cant believe we are in first place"[/spoiler]... giving a potential major clue/spoiler to what happens at the end. Hopefully everyone wasn’t paying as much attention as I was, but if you saw it too, I share your pain...
I think Borneo was better. Not only were there more teams and stories, but the actual locale was a major character, with caves filled with bats and dung, and microorganisms, in addition to the harsh environment. NZ terrain is a little more placid, so they are doing more focus on the 'team dynamics', as opposed to some poor person getting a nasty parasite up their urethra. |

That Great Adventure Race, or whatever it was called, that aired a few weeks ago absolutely blew this eco-challenge out of the water. More interesting, harder course, less fluff, focused on all of the top teams. And that Sarah chick that quit because of her bike is a total bitch. Someone just needs to slap the hell out of her.
