Great episode. The teaser really got me going for the end of the season too, too bad we have to wait three weeks.

superstringtheory 04-04-02 10:08 PM

I'm a mess after this episode...

Renee 04-04-02 10:46 PM

I had the opposite reaction of ClarkKentNY.

I, too, am a mess after this episode, but I REALLY don't want the end of the season to come. If this wasn't such an amazing show, I wouldn't watch just so I could deny reality. I seriously considered skipping the last few episodes just to forgo the crappy feeling I'll be left with after Dr. Greene's funeral.

Gotta say, first time I've ever experienced the denial stage for a fictional person. It's really a tribute to the phenominal writing staff if ever there was one. I had tears streaming down my face, yet I laughed out loud with the "I win" comment.

Wow!

Patman 04-04-02 11:26 PM

Definitely a bittersweet episode of Mark Greene's final day working in the ER. Mark got to vent a lot on his last day, and he got to make many people's lives a little bit better, which is the hallmark of his tenure, even when the odds were not in his favor. Poor Elizabeth, I felt so bad for her as she just stood there, in tears, after finding out Mark wanted no more therapy, and decided to go for quality of life over quantity of life. Can't say I blame Mark for being "selfish" in spite of having his 2 daughters and a wife, but given his experience in the ER, it's more than understandable he wants to go out on a high note, not wasting away on life support.

I'm glad the writers gave Mark a good last day in the ER (sure, the cases weren't great, but he got to leave ER on his own terms).

The West Wing wishes it were this good. Great episode. Great, great show!

bdshort 04-05-02 01:03 AM

:( :( :( <--- Me during the last 15 minutes or so of this episode. I'm still a bit of a wreck. I dont even want to think about what the season finale is going to be like. :(

Oh man, I thought I was gonna lose it during the final 15 minutes of this show. i don't know how I kept the water works from flowing. But I don't think I will be able to keep it up as the season draws to a close. I am so glad I started watching E.R. again. This is just an excellent show.

Pretty much what I was thinking, as well as what a great job Anthony Edwards has done all these years.

TK-421 04-05-02 07:51 AM

It was nice not to have a big teary goodbye, like so many other cliches nowadays. The one thing I noticed was when he told Carter "You set the tone"... That was something Dr. Morganstern told Dr. Green in the very first episode when he was chief resident (after Carol was brought in)... I thought that nice nod to the past was very appropriate..

i hadn't noticed that but nice

great final episode for dr. green. very fitting. i also like how they've brought in mehki phifer as his possible replacement(?) as dr. pratt. one of my current favorite actors right now.

CharlesC 04-05-02 10:43 AM

Man, I guess I haven't realized it till last nights episode, but Anthony Edwards has done an incredible job at creating a great character.

Dr. Greene is so cool. He's a nerd, but he's a bad ass too. He gets the chicks, and the good position, and he has never had to resort to being a bitch like Carrie.

This show is going to have a tough time rebounding from this loss.

Yes, I enjoyed his performance. Very hard and edgy. Nice to see though that he was taken back about the cancer thing with the patient. I kept saying, isnt that the dude from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer? :)

The person I hate is that whiny new kid they brought on. He is in the opening credits now. I don't even remember his name.

Anyway, great episode for Dr. Greene's last day as a doctor in the ER... it will be sad to see him go.

mmconhea 04-05-02 11:09 AM

hey, now he can go back to making those Revenge of the Nerds movies.

Do you mean Sharif Atkins, who plays Gallant? The military medical student? I love that guy!

Maybe I'm the one person that was happy to see Mark Greene go. This has been going on for so long... finally, it's hopefully over. Don't get me wrong... I like the character. How do you hate Dr. Goose? :) But what I disliked is the super drawn-out nature of his illness, and his "relationship" (ugh) with Corday. I also disliked how Mark Greene totally became "The Imparter Of Wisdom and Reason" on this last show... seems like a common thing to do on a character's last show in the ER. I thought it was sad how Mark left, though. He didn't even tell anyone it was his last day. Do you think Susan knew?

Anyone else notice the guest spot by Lori Petty (Tank Girl, A League of Their Own) as the druggie mom?

I reaaaaaally didn't like Dr. Pratt. I dislike cocky people, especially cocky doctors who think they know it all. I don't care how good you are... if you don't do a proper patient history, reeeeeaaally bad things can happen. It seems to me like he'll be sticking around, though. :(

Thats why its nice to see him get knocked down a few pegs.

I also think Gallant is cool.

BTW, Chen is still incredibly hot. What a beautiful girl.

I'd prefer he do a commentary with Tom Cruise on a Top Gun SE DVD. :D

BTW, that last line he said to carter, as TK-421 said was very appropriate. I saw it as a kind of passing-of-the-torch.

And is it me or are they setting Luka up to get back with Abby? I thought after the Breakfast Club episode that she and Carter were gonna hook up already.

I actually would like this but it seems Luka is going through some mid-life crisis thing right now--all the women and the the brand new sports car. I also don't think they would have went through that whole episode of emphasizing Carter's immense like for Abbey still if they were not going to do something about it.

I don't like how it will be 3 weeks until the next new epsiode!

suziq999 04-05-02 12:20 PM

I missed it.
wonder if there'll be a rerun before the finale?

Patman 04-05-02 12:29 PM

What if Tom Cruise showed up to pay his last respects to Goose in the season finale of ER? :)

Have you seen her in One Night Stand with Wesley Snipes. You can see a lot more of her.

ER

I liked he fact that there were no "official" goodbyes...it was really really sad when each of the docs and dr greene exchanged glances towards the end in slow motion, because everyone had the look on their faces like "oh my god this is it"...i really thought the way abby lookd at dr greene after she said goodbye was so sad but a very well done scene...

also, what did greene say to dr weaver in their final scene?...i know he said "live a little" on his way out, which i think she took as goodbye and also smiled because she IS starting to live a little judging by last week's episode with the firelady...overall great season

Patman 04-05-02 01:46 PM

I think Mark told Kerry not to let work get in the way of living. That was the gist of it.

Thanks, but Tom and I don't really speak that much anymore.

Still pissed at the whole Tom-Nicole thing, I see... :)

I lost it in the last 15 minutes. :( I couldn't keep a straight face. It's a good thing that no one was home to see me in that condition. :D A great episode too. Wow. If only ER could do this week in and week out.

BDB 04-08-02 12:35 AM

It sure was an emotional episode, but I am glad they are phasing him out, I can't stand long drawn out deaths.

I think that they need at least 2 new strong characters to join for next season, the only character that I enjoy now is Carter, Gallant does nothing for me, sorry Static, I know that is you in there, but his character is a bit irritating to me at the moment.

ER is close to being phased off my watch list, the season end can't come soon enough, so that they can have a new season with new life to it

And it's Kerry Weaver Folks, every calls her Carrie, and it bugs the crap out of me
