I'm familiar with Jay Mohr as a comedian (like on SNL) and as an actor. and I know he's been doing some sports stuff, I believe he was on an NFL pre-game (maybe CBS?). But ESPN makes it seem like he was kicked out of his last job. I can't remember what the marketing slogan is, but was wondering why Mohr's moving to ESPN. Is their a specific reason for it?

Either way, I'm curious to see what his show's like

I really haven't followed Jay Mohr's sports show stint, but he was the star of the most overlooked comedy of recent memory...Action! :up:

He also had a short-lived show on Fox called Action!. Needless to say, it was hilarious. He played a Hollywood producer trying to get his movie produced ('Beverly Hills Gun Club'). Fox retardedly cancelled the show, though it would have been much better suited to HBO since it was the kind of show where a lot of cursing that was needed was unnecessarily bleeped out.

He was on the NFL pre-pre game show on Fox Sports.

I watched every so often, he seemed to fit in quite well in the show and was actually one of the best parts of the show.

Oh well.

I got the impression that he wasn't liked on Fox's Football show. Marv Levy while doing interviews on Fox Sports Radio would at times in a round-about way say he was uninformed and juvenile.
IIRC, wasn't there a problem with him "running his mouth" on a Maryland or DC show about the Ravens?

Whether or not he was liked, I should say that he made the show much more enjoyable to watch.

I liked him the times I saw him. I was just trying to add some possible insight as to the questions Jericho asked (being "kicked out of his last job"), and not really rebutting what you said. :)

he's great. Best part of Fox Sunday Morning. He always calls a radio sports show, Jim Rome if you didn't know. He also guest hosts it alot. Action was the best TV show of the past 10 years, I've never laughed so hard watching fox- every episode was great like the gay axctor he needs for the part, his ex wife's gay new husband with the intimidating member:) pure classic stuff!! Also Go was great

I've only seen one of those commercials, but i think the slogan was more to play off his edgy humor than him getting kicked off anywhere. The one i saw had him as the host of a kid's show and he was talking to one of the kids on the set (dressed up in some silly kid's show garb) about how hot the kid's mom was. Funny as hell commercial. I will have to check out his new show because I loved Action.

Mohr is a funny guy to me, and I'll be checking out his show, Tues at 10 PM.

ESPN to expand entertainment offerings with new variety show

When Jay Mohr walks in front of a studio audience today to tape the first episode of Mohr Sports, he won't try to imitate other talk-show hosts.

Not that he thinks he could duplicate the work of David Letterman, for instance.

"Letterman is god," Mohr said. "Letterman is the monolith, and we're all apes looking at him. That's a holy place, that chair."

Mohr's ESPN sports variety show will be shot weekly, with an easier production schedule. "The Daily Show is closest to what we're doing, but they're five days a week, and we're not even close to that," he said.

Mohr Sports will feature a comedy monologue; interviews with athletes and entertainers; and short, taped segments. The 30-minute show also will include musical performances, usually at the end.

Mohr gained fame for his work on Saturday Night Live and in Jerry Maguire. He also starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom Action, has served as guest host for Jim Rome's nationally syndicated radio show and was a host on Fox's NFL This Morning.

"I've never been an analyst; I've always been more a sniper or a ringer," Mohr said. "I'm not replacing Pat Summerall here. We're sort of creating our own niche, a show that's completely unique."

The new ESPN show is "my all-time dream job, the only job with my name on the door," he said. "I'm trying to get the Mohr Sports Toilet Seats. The jokes on the air will be better than that.

"It's a comedy show, a variety show. As far as fitting in with ESPN, we're not concerned about that. . . . Basically, the entire show is built around sports and the daily soap opera of sports."

However, guests will include not only sports figures but rock stars such as Ozzie Osbourne and rapper Rakim, a sign that ESPN is serious about developing original programming. While the show may include nonsports elements, the move does not signal a retreat from the network's focus, Mohr said.

"As a sports fan and a football fan . . . I assure you the numbers and the stats are still there. Watch ESPN's 2-Minute Drill or Baseball Tonight -- there's zero 'entertainment' in those shows. You have Dave Campbell and Peter Gammons at a desk -- they're not exactly breaking out the tambourines."

Even so, Mohr Sports' unpredictable nature creates a "grand secret -- you never know what the show's going to do."

"There will be a monologue, we'll go to a commercial, then do a couple of desk pieces. Then we'll do some field pieces, have the interview, and at the end a band; and we'll have lots of surprises. When we say we're going to a commercial, you may want to stay seated."

Just got around to the taped version of Jay Mohr. Not great, but entertaining. I'll watch it again next week

I saw Mohr's stand-up act a club here in Jersey last year.

Excellent show!

Mohr's stand-up is quite good. The show wasn't bad. I'll watch it again.

Trying to get autographs from the horses was great. And those "sponsored by" tidbits were pretty funny too. "Randy Moss Tires: Guaranteed Not to Break Down the Middle."
