this one was pretty uninspired. the whole ross subplot was maybe the single dumbest thing he has been in yet. -rolleyes-

Joeboo835 03-07-02 07:38 PM

Ross could go away and I don't think anyone would notice

The last two episodes of FRIENDS have been completely subpar.

I think this whole myth of FRIENDS experiencing a surge in ratings because of creativity and an increase in quality is TOTALLY BOGUS!

FRIENDS is starting to REALLY suck.

huzefa 03-07-02 10:15 PM

I thought it was a pretty good episode. I actually liked the whole Ross subplot; atleast he wasn't being his whole 'whiny about relationships' self. I thought that dude Phoebe went out with was pretty creepy.

MFRONE 03-07-02 11:48 PM

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but the last few episodes haven't been too good and the humor isn't up to par for this show, but it seems like the acting has gotten much better. I don't think I've ever seen LeBlanc and Aniston act better. While their storyline may not be the best I really don't think they couldn't play their parts any better.

MrN 03-08-02 12:07 AM

Now that they have to pretty much rework the ending, I think we can expect the rest of the season to pretty much suck.

Well not every episode is expected to be "da bomb" or something. Of course there is going to end up being some so/so episodes. No one is perfect.

JonTurner 03-08-02 12:51 AM

I'd really liked the show the season (and pretty much all the other seasons for what it's worth), but tonight's episode was the worst I'd seen in a very long time. And last week's was the first I'd missed (or failed to download since we've had problems with Morpheus) for a while, so I can't say about that.

But anyway, a few more this poor, and I'll stop watching for good.

dave955 03-08-02 02:55 AM

I missed the very last segment, the one they show with the credits. What was in it, or was there not one this week?

thegame370 03-08-02 04:01 AM

This epsiode was pretty lame. I think the only funny and interesting stuff was that concerning Ross. Everything else was extremely boring.

During the end Ross was ordering stuff from the catalog he was going through at Mona's. Then Mona showed up and told Ross that she thought he snuck into her apartment because he still had feelings for her. She had feelings for him, but it couldn't work out with the Rachel situation. She then grabbed the Faded Salmon shirt that Ross got back and asked to keep it to remember him. Ross said no and took the shirt.

Was the actor that played that character the same actor that played Mark Albert (James LeGros) on Ally McBeal? Man was he GROSS looking with long hair!

Overall an okay episode, I thought. I laughed at Chandler and Monica's side bits the most. I can see why people would dislike this one because there was no strong central storyline aside from "can Joey and Rachel be in the same room together" which basically came down to two rather brief scenes. The Chandler as gay man jokes were a little to prevalent this episode too...

Still - to LeBlanc and Aniston for more great acting. I'd watch a show just about them!

Patman 03-08-02 08:02 AM

Yes, that was James LeGros from "Ally McBeal".

I thought Monica (Courtney Cox-Arquette) looked a bit gaunt and sallow in her face, didn't look too healthy to me.

I think this last episode sucked the life out of her (among other things).

I didn't watch last night but I have come to the following conclusions. They already ruined Monica and Chandler - that happened last year with their marriage. Ross is simply a painful character to watch - pretty much has been for years. With the Joey crush on Rachel & subsequent rejection, they turned him into a pitiful loser.

BigDave 03-08-02 09:37 AM

It was an ok show, but nothing amazing. I think the writers are having a hard time figuring out what to do with the characters. Maybe these so-so episodes are just filler until the season finale of Rachael giving birth.

tofu 03-08-02 11:00 AM

bad episode :grunt: I really hoping that they're not just tanking these episodes so that they can concentrate on the finale.

when phoebe met alec baldwin in the dry cleaners, i kept thinking of the alec baldwin is a tool thread

mikehunt 03-08-02 11:32 AM

me too on the alec baldwin thing

Thanks MFRONE

I thought that Ross was one of the only funny things about the episode. I don't understand all the backlash towards him.

Schwimmer is heads and shoulders above anybody else on the show when it comes to physical comedy. (a rarely used commodity these days)

I laughed out loud when he grabbed the hot key outside Mona's apartment and then again when dove behind the couch. He's got timing and the noises he makes and whimpery voices he uses are good IMO.

The part when Rachel goes into a meeting with her boss and he has to have a witness there was funny. Kind of poking fun at how careful you have to be in the workplace right now.

And I'll say again. So-so Friends is still better than most sitcoms on television today.

Josh-da-man 03-08-02 01:17 PM

I think the complaints about the last two episodes stem from the fact that the writers seem to be stalling time until Rachel has the baby. That the shows were delayed by the Olympics didn't help much, either.

One problem I see is that "Friends" has been becoming the Joey and Rachel show. Chandler and Monica are married, so their story arcs are essentially over -- their characters have closure. Ross has been a whiney "loser" because the writers don't really seem to know what to do with him and they're paying Schwimmer $750,000 a week, so they have to include him somehow. The writers have made it clear that he isn't going to be much of a factor in Rachel's pregnancy, so they've turned him into a cartoon. Take one facet of his character and beat it into the ground, like Kelly Bundy getting dumber and dumber as "Married With Children" limped on and on. I also forsee a lot of bad dates for Phoebe ... unless she and Ross hook up soon.

I forgot about that...my wife and i both laughed out loud at that.

BDB 03-09-02 12:21 PM

Not the greatest episode, some groan moments, but I do agree with whoever said that Joey and Rachel are acting very well together.

The scenes they are in are so well written, and they play of each other very well.

I know chandler's weight has been discussed ad nauseam, but someone really needs to fire his wardrobe person.

CarlosTheDwarf 03-10-02 10:09 AM

WTF happened with Phoebe's children. Geez, that was such a big deal and they never even mention it at all.

Patman 03-10-02 10:56 AM

Phoebe's brother (Giovanni Ribisi)and his wife are taking care of the babies.

iirc, the actress was pregnant in real life and the story line was written into the show cuz of that. they've pretty much ignored ross's kid in the last few seasons too.

Ross's kid was in a couple of episodes last season IIRC. But he's stayed out of the way this season.

kevin75 03-10-02 01:53 PM

i, for one, am glad that they haven't had ben in many episodes cause he is always annoying whenever i see him.
