sci-fi is attempting redemption

wide screen blade runner is on now
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is coming, as is ST: Generations

Tuan Jim 03-04-02 09:45 PM

MMBT is nothing special. TBS/TNT has been showing it for years. (Same with the Road Warrior)

Speaking of Sci-Fi redemption, anyone know when Farscape will be back on the air (bothing S1-3 re-runs and the remaining 4 eps of S3).

mikehunt 03-04-02 10:25 PM

true, but it's higher class than this

Too little too late ...

As for Farscape, I think April 5th was the last "official" word, but it's changed a few times. Those last 4 episodes are damn_good. They need to get off their ass and show them before their entire audience is gone.

Sci fi channel should be showing
Red Dwarf
Millennium
New MST3Ks
that would redeem them in my eyes

mikehunt 03-09-02 08:25 PM

ST: Generations is in widescreen
maybe there's hope for sci-fi after all

caiman 03-10-02 07:02 AM

Just wanted to add: Sci Fi has recently shown Alien, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Willow, and Star Trek Generations, and they were all in widescreen. Not too shabby.

Don't really care about Millennium, but I'm with you on those other two. Put MST3K on at a regular hour when people can actually watch -- maybe late night or afternoon? But, Red Dwarf would be awesome. That was a pretty good (if somewhat odd) show.

Slumbering Fist 03-10-02 12:39 PM

SciFi is freaky... They pump money into stuff like a Firestarter miniseries? and Lexx?, but drop cheap to produce good shows like MST3k and Invisible Man?... They drop their anime programming for lame dirct to video fantasy/sci fi crud no one watches?

Also, they have alwys said they wont get Red Dwarf or Doctor Who. I dont know the reasons for Red Dwarf, but the Dr Who excuse is lame- They claim it wasnt popular with their viewers, when they only showed a couple of seasons (early in the morning/afternoon I think) back in the days when they were on in like three cities... Somehow ten yrs later that stigma still sticks. They run TimeTunnnel, and Land of the Giants and Dark Shadows in hte morning,... but, God forbid, no Doctor Who, because our ten viewers in 1991 didnt watch it.

darkside 03-10-02 01:01 PM

Actually, I'm not sure MST3K was that cheap to produce. I've heard the rights to those crappy movies are outrageous and from what I had read the cost of producing the shows was one of the things going against it. The biggest problem was probably finding a two hour time slot for it. Not to mention its a comedy show making fun of Sci-Fi movies. Kind of goes against the whole idea of having it on the Sci-Fi channel.

That being said, its the only show on Sci-Fi I like or watch and it did need a much better time slot. Sci-Fi extended the reruns for another year, so it must still draw a decent audience.

As far as the Anime, I thought that programming was a great fit for Sci-Fi but at least Cartoon Network is picking up some of the slack. Adult Swim has had a few Anime shows I really liked.

Shows like Doctor Who just seem so perfect for the Sci-Fi network, but obviously none of their executives have a clue about good programming.

The only thing that amazes me about Sci-Fi is that it hasn't been shut down yet. Its really a waste of a great idea for a network.

I would really like to see a Horror Channel...Sci Fi has not carried it's weight as far as including enough true horror.

Sci-Fi doesn't carry its weight in carrying true sci-fi!

Ya, but I still have a tough time viewing them with all the commercials and edits.
Sends me heading for the DVD every time.

I don't get it-if they're willing to show some movies in letterbox, why not show all of them? It's too much of a tease. It's not as bad as TNN's logic (black bar on every show, but like hell we'll show widescreen), but it still doesn't make sense to me. But I guess "some" is better then "none".

Oh man....now we're talking. And the FAQ even says taht their goal is to show films in their uncut version.

The United States really needs this channel!

Ack! Red Dwarf with _commercial_ interruptions?!?

No, that would kill the SciFi channel for me. Nobody interrupts my Red Dwarf for stupid Britney (Hemi)Spheres Pepsi commercials. Them's fightin' words.

I could go for a little Time Tunnel action. Perhaps Futurama when Fox finally kills the show (they're trying to kill it as we speak).

403Forbidden 03-11-02 12:14 AM

Until they start showing Dr. Who, they ain't worth crap.
