"100 Centre Street" Cancelled
From Zap2it.com:
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Add "100 Centre Street" to the list of well-regarded TV shows that failed to connect with a broad audience. A&E announced Wednesday (Feb. 20) that it would not renew the drama set inside New York City's court system, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The final episode will air Tuesday, March 5. The show, which premiered in January 2001 and starred Alan Arkin, Paula Devicq and LaTanya Richardson, earned strong reviews from critics for its portrayal of New York's night court. It drew decent ratings in its first season but struggled this fall, when A&E moved it from Monday night to Tuesday. Sidney Lumet, who executive produced "100 Centre Street" and directed several episodes, was also set to work on a series about the Supreme Court for A&E. That project has fallen by the wayside as well. |
Man, that sucks. No love for Sidney Lumet? What is this world coming to?

Sidney Lumet will be directing one of the project greenlight loser's scripts.
I am going to miss the show, thought i thought it took a major drop off in quality this season. |
I watched some of the first season and I didn't like how it would raise a major plot thread and then not address it for several episodes. I understood the show wanted to focus on one character (and their work and life at their job) at a time, but it never connected with me. In particular, if they wanted to do that, it would have had to be 100% Paula Devicq all the time to work (for me).

I think A & E totally mishandled this show. They show the same Law & Order rerun multiple times a day, but if you missed an episode of 100 Centre Street you had to hunt for their ever-shifting re-broadcast. I thought they would've shown the episodes more often to give it a better chance of drawing viewers away from the major networks. It's not like A & E has an abundance of fresh programming to fill their schedule. Too bad it's cancelled...although the quality in Season two was slipping.
