Will Stargate SG-1 *stink* on Sci-Fi ?

Salon has an article about the show today...

http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/200...ion/index.html

It claims that the show "shot itself in the foot" mid-Season 4 -- (which I'm just watching now in syndication) -- abandoning its planet-exploration premise in favor of domestic "conspiracy-theory" storylines... Rather than increasing the ratings, it caused them to plummet...

I didn't realize until this article that Micheal Shanks (Daniel Jackson) quit the show specifically because he hated the way it had been "retooled"...

So: Did Season 5 stink, Showtime folks? Is Season 6 -- complete with "replacement hunk" -- gonna stink even more?
