What issues/questionable topics has Family Guy made fun of?

... that you just don't see other network shows handle?
Here's a few that I can think of right now...

Stem Cell Research (when Stewie said that sometimes he wishes that he were used for stem cell research).

Nudists (the Nudists Neighbors)

Handicaps (the Special Games and The Giffin's neighbor Joe)

Matricide (Stewie Trying to kill Lois)

...

mikehunt 02-08-02 02:17 PM

there's the pre 9/11 terrorism one where stewie smuggles guns by dancing in front of the airport security people

Hitler - The Hiter Sitcom

minifigg 02-08-02 05:37 PM

Let's not forget th eincredibly WRONG yet INCREDIBLY FUNNY Oompa Loompa song about handicapped access.
And last night they took on The Plastic Surgery industry...

Fox has banned an episode of Family Guy called "When You Wish Upon A Weinstein," which presumably makes fun of Jewish people. Here's a summary I found.. don't know how accurate it is:

Here's a quick summary - Peter squanders Lois' rainy day money on a bunk insurance policy...so he ends up wishing for a Jew after Quagmire and Cleveland's Jewish accountants help them out w/ their finances (it's a really funny song parody of "When You Wish Upon A Star") ...conviniently enough, Max Weinstein's car breaks down outside Peter's house. After helping Peter out and educating him on Judaism a bit, Peter gets the idea that the only way Chris will be successful is for him to become Jewish.

They made fun of Bob Crane from Hogans Heroes.

On one of last night's episodes where Brian had fleas...they all go to a hotel.

Stewie breaks out a translucent (?) (i don't really know the name of the light) to check out things you can't see with the naked eye...

He sees "oatmeal" on the floor etc and see semen on the comforter...

He states that this must be the room where Bob Crane strangled Wilford Brimley....

...clearly speaking of his addiction to sex.

One of the instances that I thought was wrong...but this is such a funny show.

I laughed so hard when he said that, and everyone I was with looked at me like I was crazy. I resisted the urge to explain to them who Bob Crane was.

I can't believe that they got away with that Bob Crane joke. Of course, it goes over most people's heads.

Incidentally, Greg Kinnear is playing Crane in a new movie.

Actually the episode was made BEFORE 9-11 but it still included osama bin laden....

Off-topic musing

"pre" and "before" mean different things now?

mdc3000 02-09-02 05:56 PM

in the incredibly offensive and hilarious episode where peter goes for sensitivity classes, they make some masogonistic jokes, and make fun of the MILLION MAN MARCH... Where Peter takes the stage to complain about men, in one of the most gasp inducing scenes i think the show has had...

Personally, I could care less, but for all intensive purposes, it's the same difference.

Sorry ... just felt the urge to use all three of those stupid phrases at one time.

Can't forget teen pregnancy and drug addiction when Brian sniffs coke as a police dog and goes to the rehab center and Peter and Brian go canoeing across the river to the Teen Pregnancy Center and put all of their hands in water and you just start to hear "plopping" and babies crying lol

If you read my post, I clearly pointed out that I was employing three annoyingly stupid phrases.

The inherent danger of making a joke like that is people really think you are as stupid as the people you're making fun of. Oh well. Even with the disclaimer, people still don't get the joke.

I was just mildly curious as to why the guy I quoted seemed to be drawing a distinction. Ho hum.

Which is why I used the meaningless phrase "same difference" - because they're the same, but not the way that post read. I wasn't mocking you.

If I'd thought that I'd have left the thread (or perhaps posted a rolleyes :) )

My sole purpose was to ascertain why the apparent distinction was being drawn: I was already sure that there wasn't one. I haven't really got anywhere in that regard, have I?

tygloalex 02-10-02 11:51 AM

There's Ready Willing and Disabled where the special olympics for the deaf people are late because they can't hear the alarm going off. Or where Peter gets sensitivity training for harassing women at work.

"Is she the chick we took a picture of taking a dump?"
