Enterprise 1/30/02
Two in a row? I'll keep this brief so as not to jinx it, but I enjoyed this episode. I think I liked last week better, but this one was still pretty good, and it was refreshing to see both sides of the escape from trouble angle: Archer used his wits to get by the Klingon lady, and Reed used technology to try to escape the atmosphere.
The sonic shower was gratuitous, but it was also nice to see some comaraderie between these characters. And just one question ... if Gagh is such a delicacy, why does every Klingon eat it for every single meal ... ever? das |
so did they give the klingon woman a portable UT?
she spoke perfect English almost immediately |
I think I'm jinxing the quality of the episode just by watching. I missed both the Andoran episode and last week.
This one, had its moments. They're starting to flesh out the characters a bit - especially the translator chick (hoshi?) The one thing I'm still not impressed with is Archer's captaincy. I mean, the reason they left Earth was because of that Klingon guy. Now, five months later, he finally cracks a book on them and realizes that they're warlike? Hello? Is he waiting for 'Al' to tell him everything? |
I say, bring on the gratuitousness! Let's do an hour long retrospective on that decontamination chamber. It was the best part of the whole show! >:)
Anyone convert that scene to mpeg yet? |
Notice that the Vulcan chick's shorts and tank are a lot more skimper than Hoshi's? Yummmmmm! 8-)
|
Pretty sad when the money shot of the episode is given away in the previews from last week. :)
And how come Archer wasn't in the chamber with the other 3? I think if I had to classify Tripp's personality, it would be of a trust family bloodhound, he's just so easy going and earnest. Archer's dialogue delivery is...so...stilted..., but I did like seeing him using his noggin in "negotiating" with the female Klingon and later the ungrateful Klingon captain. Of course, I found it rather funny to see Archer and Tripp so laid back with a total lack of urgency as the trio (Malcom, Hoshi, T'Pol) were on the Klingon ship falling to their deaths, Archer is just poking around the Vulcan archives on Klingons and Tripp is just hanging around waiting on orders. But the episode definitely made it into the "did not suck" category for a change. |
I must be in a cranky mood this week. Thought this was Booooring.
I'll try to leave it at this: Originally posted by ratguy I say, bring on the gratuitousness! Let's do an hour long retrospective on that decontamination chamber. |
Originally posted by Wizdar I must be in a cranky mood this week. Thought this was Booooring. I'll try to leave it at this: I don't think her b-eek--eek-bs are real. I wish it had been Hoshi that had gotten up and walked around, so we could get a good look at her too. Regarding the rest of the show, I thought it was pretty decent. I also noticed the sometimes not so speedy approach some of the crew members took. Let's think this over... the ship is going to implode in ~20 minutes. Hey, lets take a good 5 minutes to teach Hoshi some Vulcan mind trick, just so she can get control over her ADD. Anyone else find this implausable? Or, perhaps they're trying to set up some Hot, Hot, Lesbian Action between them. :) |
Originally posted by ratguy I bet they pad Hoshi's bra as well. |
On a positive note, I liked the little part where N’Pol hesitated at Phlox’s suggestion that they were done. There was a hint of impishness when she developed a “headache.”
This may seem in conflict with complaints about the character, but consider that one of Spock’s endearing qualities was his occasionally being “cute” and making a subtle joke or two. This is not the same thing as the bitchy, angry Vulcan we’ve complained about in the past. |

Originally posted by Wizdar Actually, I thought they strapped them down in the DeCon scene to make N'Pol's look bigger. |
Originally posted by ratguy In total agreement with you here. Back when they were playing B5 at 7pm, I'd watch the last few minutes of ST:TOS before B5 came on. I'd not seen TOS for many years, and watching this time I realized that Spock had the best lines out of all the characters. I was floored, as I didn't remember him being as funny as he was. It made me appreciate his character that much more. das |
Originally posted by ratguy Glad to see someone else calling her N'pol. I invented that right after seeing the pilot. (although I doubt I'm the only one to have thought it up) das |
Originally posted by ratguy I invented that right after seeing the pilot. Dude! In my book you're right up there with the inventors of pr0n and the das boot edition. ;) |

Originally posted by G. Noel Gross You're a rat after my own heart. On the other hand, B5 keeps me coming back because of the story. Lyta is just an added bonus. |
Originally posted by ratguy I'll be honest. I think the show is pretty good, but the reason I keep coming back is hopes of more decontamination scenes with either N'pol or Hoshi. das |
Originally posted by das Monkey I guess I'm in the minority, but N'Pol does nothing for me. das Ivanova gives me the hot. :) |

Originally posted by Wizdar I can't seem to keep my eyes off her obvious distractions, but I've never been a member of the "bigger is better" club. Ivanova gives me the hot. :) Hoshi's much cuter than either of them anyhow. :) |
Originally posted by das Monkey Ivanova does little for me, but Claudia Christian gives me the double hot. She likes to wear braless white t-shirts to conventions ... boi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oi-ng. das (I think someone is forgetting the rules) |

T'Pol was on the USA rerun of JAG a few days ago
breasts were somewhat smaller |
Originally posted by das Monkey "someone" is at work right now. :) das Check the B5 thread. ;) |
This is what annoys me about modern Trek.
The conversion never fails to steer towards which actress this week gave who "the hot." 7 of 9 was the death-knell of Voyager and, unless they start injecting her with a much more pronounced character, "clown-lips N'Pol" is the weakest link of the current Enterprise. Incidentally last night's episode truly was the second in a string of "good" episodes. Even though you knew there was literally no danger of those three characters biting the big one over the course of the hour, there were enough touches of realism to make it enjoyable. Still - they did encounter the Klingon ship . . . in the dark, with flashlights . . . again. |
Originally posted by grunter Still - they did encounter the Klingon ship . . . in the dark, with flashlights . . . again. (Unless you want to count the Klingon dogs that they were going to eat. :) ) By the way, I absolutely agree with you. Hot or not (I'd vote not), T'pol is a terribly weak character... when she should probably be the most interesting. But, I suppose the producers and writers don't care, since she was obviously hired only for her breasts. During the writing meetings, I can see it now... "Hmmm... it seems like there isn't much character development here... we seem to be having a really tough time writing this Vulcan character... the audience is going to start getting bored with her... WAIT! I've got it! Shower scene!!!!" Problem solved. But, this episode wasn't bad overall. Definitely not as great as last week, but it does fall into the "doesn't suck" category. |
Good episode, no gratuitous Porthos or spelunking action, although they did break out the flashlights in the dark again. :D
Have a feeling we'll be seeing the Klingons again sometime soon... :) Bakula needs to tweak Archer a little still. He's a work in progress... -BT |

N'Pol or (Jolene Blalock) was on the cover of the October 2001 Maxim. I think "their" fake but look kinda real if that makes any sense.....you get to see quite a bit of her....to bad she has an outie! yuck!

N'Pol (heh, like this name better than the real one) is the token seven of nine character, only without the emotions. I think her character could be a lot better if the writers could see past her rack long enough to make her a little less biz-nitchy. Spock didn't start coming into his own right away either. It wasn't till he was discovered to have a latent sense of humor and all those superpowers that he began to get really cool :D There may be hope for the N'Pol.
Cap'n Archer...ho boy, don't get me started. I'm still having my doubts that the Unbelieveable Scott Bakula will start playing his character a little better. He's close to Keanu Reeves in his stiffness, but he doesn't have that cute dumb puppy dog look that Keanu has going for him. But the series is young yet, and all of the different Trek series started off a bit stiff. So far the only thing I like about Archer is Porthos. Man, that dog can ACT! I'm really enjoying this series in spite of its flaws. |

N/M, I think I found her. Was she in the second to last episode? I missed that one.

Originally posted by mllefoo My husband said the vulcan chick should go into porn. If anything on that woman's body has been enhanced, it had to be those smackers. What? Is she half duck-billed platypus? Or just part-clown on her mother's side? Disturbing, either way. |
