The Guber/Hook Lady storyline is getting old. It's the same "oh, he doesn't like me because I have a hook" every week.
At the beginning of the season, I thought they were putting Harry Senate aside to introduce the new characters. Now half-way through the season and he's still hardly used. It's a pity because he's one of my favorite characters and now they've reduced him to popping up at the end of every show to comfort Ronnie.
I was surprised how the pregnancy situation turned out, but still, it wasn't very interesting.
Harvey's speech was the highlight of the show, in my opinion.

I agree. The hook crap is getting very old. Nobody cares anymore!
I wish they would use Harry more too. The preview for next week looks like he gets a bigger part with the debate.
Harvey's speech was excellent. I thought he would win the prize.

I disagree. The Guber/Meredith relationship is probably the most interesting storyline on the show. It's not something that can be totally explored in one or two episodes. I noticed that Kathy Baker is showing up on the beginning credits now, so I guess she's a permanent addition to the cast. As for Harry Senate, I'm tired of explaining the theory behind large ensemble casts.

last week i predicted it was the father's kid...about half way thru the show (the locker room scene) I figured out that she was a surragate mom...either I watch too much tv or the show is too predictable

I couldn't believe how torn up Ronnie was getting over calling social services; the parents were using one child to harvest organs from an unborn child who wouldn't be able to consent to the operation. That's a pretty clear cut, "Call Social Services" sign in flashing neon lights.
I'm sick of the Harper's daughter storylines. She just bugs the hell out of me for some reason.

I just want to know what doctor out there would implant an embryo in the uterus of a teenage girl. Someone should call Social Services on them. I don't care if the parents consented, that is just wrong.
I miss Harry Senate too. Yes, I realize it is an ensemble show, but in an ensemble you're supposed to get a storyline at least once in a while. He was one of the strongest characters from last season (as was Lauren Davis) and they have both been relegated to the background to make way for Hook Lady, Ronnie, Mr. Hanson, and Harper's daughter.
A good ensemble should use all the characters, not just emphasize the new characters.
My husband also pointed out some character inconcistences last night: Marla is now Harvey Lipschultz's cheerleader and Lauren in now against him? Radical shift from last season.

He and Marla have been developing a relationship since they had to teach together. They've slowly identified with each other and formed a special bond. This fits perfectly into Marla's character.

As for Lipschultz's speech - I was shocked that he didn't get 1st place. Something like that is usually the token mark of a David E. Kelley show. Anyway - I'm SO over this character. His speech was good in explaining why he is a stinky teacher, etc. but is this going to change his character. Doubtful. The speech could have been pull from the initial character study drawn up by Kelley when he created the show ("Bitter, ineffective teacher whose decent years as an educator has passed. Jealous of all peers who are in their prime...").
As for Marla and Danny Hanson, I was SO over that storyline last year - YIKES. Thank God, Harper was like "Um, we've already covered this in the past." I was beginning to think the show was having amnesia!

Harvey's speech was the only thing I really paid attention to (was doing stuff and have the TV on in the background). The speech probably reflects the truth of public education in a very scary macroscopic way.
I think BP is suffering a bit of sophomore-itis, I find myself not riveted to my seats for BP episode, as I was last season. Maybe it's too many new (but truly interesting) characters for this show.
I also miss the 2 hot, but catty teachers (Jenna, and Alexondra).

And another thing about Lauren: I'm pretty surprised she would even think of asking Guber to the symphony with her. After all she went through last year with him., I thought she pretty much realized thet even if she is trying to be friendly/nice tohim he ends up taking it the wrong way and gets too lovey-dovey with her. Maybe she realized he was "safer" now that he is in a relationship, but I'm not sure someone as cautious as Lauren would risk that.
I still don't understand why Harry Senate isn't allowed a storyline in an ensemble show.
It would be one thing if Nicky Katt was off making movies or something, I could understand him not appearing for many episode. But the frustrating thing is lately he appears in one scene, in the teacher's lounge or something, to say an unimportant line and then be gone. It's very frustrating for fans of this character. If you're not going to give him anything to do, then don't remind us by sticking him in an obligatory scene with a few throwaway lines.
