The New Twilight Zone?

Having just bought the whole original Twilight Zone DVD series, I was interested if anyone had any information as to whether there are any plans in the works to bring any of the New Twilight zone episodes (the ones from the 1980's) to DVD.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't help you out with your question, but I'd just to like to say that I believe the NTZ is very under-rated.

I haven't seen it since I was twelve or so, but I remember quite a few intriguing episodes. I enjoyed it quite a lot. And, yes, at the time I had seen most of the original series.

I too would love this show on dvd.

I would also have to agree about the new series being underrated. How about the 1983 TWILIGHT ZONE THE MOVIE?
Any news on the film coming to DVD?

According to the Rumor Mill Archive at www.thedigitalbits.com - it's one of several Warner Bros. titles "under consideration for late 2002 and beyond". I'm looking forward to this one, and hoping for NTZ episodes as well.

Some excellent episodes in TNTZ.

[POTENTIAL MILD SPOILERS]

A few standouts that I remember are the episode where this guy wakes up one day and notices that every now and again people are speaking a word that he’s never heard before. The number of these words increases over a short time and the episode ends with him being the only person speaking English and everone else talking in this weird gibberish.

Another one was a Harlan Ellison story called Shatterday where Bruce Willis accidentally calls his own number from a bar and he answers!

One of my faves was an episode where this couple accidentally slip out of regular time and discover that a bunch of technicians, painters and workmen are "preparing" the future a few hours ahead of normal time so that when the present catches up everything will be ready for it.

Cool show and a million times better than the new Outer Limits.

Not sure I could watch TZ The Movie after having read Outrageous Conduct and Special Effects, two books about the TZ trial. The appalling tragedy that befell Vic Morrow and the two girls in the Vietnam sequence would make the movie impossible to view.

I know who I would hold responsible for the accident.

I vaguely remember these episodes as I was only around 12-13 years old when they came out. I have since gotten hooked on the original Twilight Zone and I would love nothing more to add to my collection with the New Twilight Zones. Anyone know the company who made these? I would like to know who to write to, to find out if there are any plans to bring these to DVDs.

BTW, I just recently purchased the whole set. I got it at a great price. $509 shipped.

Here is the link for all who is interested:

I got the DVDs in about one week, and they came neatly packaged. Highly recommended.

Another great New Twilight Zone episode was Paladin of the Lost Hour with Danny Kaye. also written by Harlan Ellison..

.. footnote for those that don't know.. TNTZ was Story Edited and several stories written by JMS of Babylon 5 fame... including one ep that came from a unfinished story by Rod Serling.. JMS was the first person the estate had ever let near RS's files...

Did the New Twilight Zone have that episode where a Shadow Man lived under some boys bed? I can't remember if it was NTZ, Amazing Stories, Tales from the Darkside, or some other series.

For those who don't know, TNT is currently showing this program sporatically... usually around 5:30 or 6 AM whenever they have a free slot. They've been doing it for about 6 months now.

The only episode on this week is early Tuesday morning at 5:35 AM (EST). That's about 8 hours from now. The episode is one of the ones that has 2 stories "Cold Reading/Uncle Devil Show".

I was very exited when this series first began airing in 1985 and I was not disappointed. I have all of them on tape uncut from their original airings. Although when it went into syndication for the 1988-1989 season the quality went way down. I don't have all of those but would still consider buying them in box sets of dvd's. I know that at least 12 volumes of these shows were released on Laserdisc in Japan that contained most of, if not, the entire first season. I have three of these discs.

Another thing I noticed while taping the shows I DIDN'T have from TNT was that occasionally they would ADD, that's right, ADD footage into some of the shows that were shorter than 21 minutes. Sometimes as much as 2 or 3 minutes of new stuff that wasn't there originally!

If anyone's interested I could post what info I have about these shows or the contents of the Laserdiscs.

scoot95 01-15-02 07:05 AM

If I remember correctly, weren't some of the NTZ episodes remakes of classic TZ episodes?

Thank you! TiVo will now be taping all episodes for me. :)

I absolutely love this show. My favorite episodes: WISH BANK with Dee Wallace-Stone (I scored this on Japanese laserdisc), THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN with Colleen Dewhurst and BUT CAN SHE TYPE? about an over-abused secretery who finds appreciation in an alternate world where she's a celebrety (also on LD). Another great episode had a meek woman who takes in a stray cat only to have it turn into a handsome dreamboat (only in the night-time can he become human) - he helps her come out of her shell and she's happy until she finds him cheating on her. ***SPOILER ALERT HERE**** Then she drugs him and when he comes to, he is back to being a cat...she takes him to the vet in order to have him fixed!!! That one was great.

The LD's from Japan are very good quality and are in English with the subtitles and you can find 'em on eBay every now and then. Worth seeking out for you LD owners. Only the first season on CBS was released on LD.

Oh yeah, the episode directed by Joe Dante called Shadow Man is also on LD. That one was good, too.

Great ep. If I’m remembering correctly she could pause time. Killer ending (literally).

TOLEN 01-16-02 11:41 AM

I liked the episode where an descendent of JFK came back in time and prevented his assassination. This caused a ripple effect and started to cause problems in the timeline (ie-Kruschev was assassinated). The ending was kinda of cool.
I have most of the episodes. But, the quality is not the greatest. Hopefully, someone will get the rights and release them. Does anyone know who does have the rights??

Josh-da-man 01-16-02 02:20 PM

If anyone is interested, there's a book called "The New Twilight Zone," edited by Martin Greenberg, that collects a lot of the best stories that were adapted into NTZ shows. It also has an introduction that gives a good overview of the series.

I have it in a trade paperback I bought about ten years ago, but I've seen hardcover editions in the bargain book sections of bookstores.

New Twilight Zone

This was one of my favorite shows during the 80's. Did you know that the Grateful Dead did the opening soundtrack for the show? If you watch the opening sequence very carefully, you can make out a Steal Your Face/Grateful Dead logo for a split second. I guess my favorite episode was the one with the modern day boy who travels back in time to meet the girl from the Salem Witch Trial days. I believe it was a two part show. It still gives me chills for some reason! I hope it makes it to DVD. I heard that Night Gallery might be coming out, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

Jad 01-16-02 07:56 PM

This show was underrated indeed...[some SPOILERS follow]

Among the episodes I remember:

- A remake of "Game of Pool", with Esai Morales (La Bamba, NYPD Blue) in the Jack Klugman role, but with a different ending.

- A man comes to a small town and starts telling people "the meaning of life", and each person he tells goes insane (or a scenario similar to this).

- An alien comes to the U.N. and finds all of the the diplomats fighting amongst themselves. He tells them how his people created humans and how he's disappointed in how they've evolved and will destroy the Earth. The diplomats beg for 24 hours to make peace. However, the beautiful twist lies in *why* he's disappointed.

- I vaguely remember a scientist working in a lab with a baby that probably came out of nowhere, that started growing rapidly... into someone from his past. Quite touching.

- Also, a boy and his parents are nervous about a standardized test that all children his age must take. When he finally does take it, the parents await the results... to find that he did very well, and they start *crying*. He in fact did *too* well, so the government kills him, as they want some kind of homogenous society.

DVDs of this series would be most welcome.

I really enjoyed this series as well. I remember most of the episodes already talked about. The timeline episode was very cool. To this day, everytime I misplace my keys or something and then find them in a place I swear I already checked, I think about this episode.

Another cool one was where there was this retarded kid/man living with his elderly mom/dad (can't remember which) who has the power to bring anything he sees in a book or magazine to him by just saying "bring". one day he decides to bring his absent parent, but he does not get exactly what he expects.

*** It has been many years (LIKE 12) since I have seen this episode, so please bear with me if I got a few details wrong!! :)***

RobCA 01-17-02 12:22 AM

Wow, reading all these posts is making me want the series on DVD even more than I did before!

One of my favorite episodes was To See The Invisible Man, where an uncaring man is sentenced to a year of public invisibility..

scoot95 01-17-02 09:46 AM

Wow, like I said before I watched these as a kid, but I don't remember these at all. They sound very intriguing. I am now dying to see these on DVD. No one noted on here who would have the distribution rights to this series. Anyone have any clue?

Now, if I can get this series and the New Alfred Hitchcock Presents series on DVD (the one also in the 1980's. The one I remember is the one with the Woman Prisoner and the Grave Digger. Damn, that gave me nightmares for years), I will be a happy camper.

TOLEN 01-17-02 09:54 AM

The episode about the modern day high schooler who can communicate with a girl from the Salem witch trial days was called a Message from Charity. It starred a young Robert Duncan McNeill who played Lt.Paris on Star Trek:Voyager.
