These early shows that FX airs are tres dark. You can barely make out the characters faces half the time.

Sup with that? Doex FX have bad copies of the shows? or were they really that dark?

Shooting on 16mm film stock probably had a hand in the darkness of the footage from Season 1. My gripe is that all of the Buffy's on FX seem to be a tad bit on the green side.

They really shot it on 16mm. Did they go to 35mm for future seasons.

I noticed the bit of green tint also.

Yep - I hope so too. Although, I am still debating on whether or not I will be picking up the set.

Thank goodness it wasn't just my TV set! (I brought this up because I didn't see the green tint on the commercials that run during FX Buffy's).

As much as I hate to admit it, seeing the 2nd run of the FX Buffy's start up yesterday doesn't make it any less desirable to watch the show again. It was such a more innocent time for the whole gang at the beginning...

Someone must be confusing you with the Chewbacca Defense, because I see no debate.

While Season 1 may be the shortest and 'cheesiest', I think the Whedon commentary alone makes it a must-have for me.

Agreed. Just the horrors of high school to deal with. Not nearly as complicated as their lives are now.

(edit)
Whoops, forgot the relevant part of my post. I noticed on a friends copy of the Region 2 DVD's that they still look dark. I think it must be the 16mm film causing this problem. It's not nearly as bad in future seasons. And yes, I am waiting with baited breath to be able to purchase the Season 1 set on Jan 15th.

Well my dad is a huge Buffy fan, so he may end up buying them himself, then I can just borrow them.

I wish they would just start releasing lots of more tv shows on DVD, but then again, don't we all...
