If you like British comedy...

...and you have Comedy Central, check out Black Books. It's on late at night (Sunday - Midnight eastern/pacific), but it's just started last week and it's great. The Comedy Central website lists an episode for Monday 12/17 at midnight. But at that time, it's easy to miss. Details on the show including video clips, to give you a taste of the show, are at http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/blackbooks/

Whatever happened to this? CC aired a handful of episodes, than like Kayser S, "poof" it was gone.

Tell me about it! I saw the title, thought "I like British comedies, wonder what it's about?" *click* Imagine my surprise that it was a thread I wrote!

But, I'd like to add that they are available on DVD in Region 2.

Sorry I was watching a bit of BBCAmerica the other night and was curious about the fate of this show on Comedy Central and the lack of it on BBCA. I am actualkly surprised there was not more interest in this awesome comedy, too bad I can not play region 2 discs.

Even if you can't afford a Malata DVD player or some other officially region free player, you could check out www.dvdrhelp.com, if you haven't already, and see if there is a hack for your DVD player to watch these DVDs on your player. I don't worry about seeing this on TV, because I own the discs.

This is an excellent show and the latest season is being shown on channel4 in the UK now.
2 brilliant lines so far are:
"And just think! In two years you could have become a sub-vice deputy assistant"
"Manny, you are a horse in a man costume"

Ok... well, I'll try and use this resurrected thread and get bang for the buck with it.

What is the name of the UK comedy with the guy that owns the bar, he's big and bald? The whole show is in the bar. Pretty much he treats the customers rudely, and I think one time there was some sort of bar consultant cause his bar was being taken over by some evil bar-taking-over company. And it may not be a BBC show, it may be Sky.

Is it a current show? Multi-season?

Anyone? BDB? Gareth?

jdslater 04-18-04 02:45 PM

"time gentleman, please"
It was on sky, but he is more of a stand-up guy. Sometimes he appears as a guest on some radio shows over here and he is so quick and funny with his replies.
In case you didn't know his stchick, In the UK we have a tradition of barman in pubs as a centre of all known knowledge, this is what he did and was always right.
He was called Al the pub landlord.

Another season of Black books recently began on ch4 over here, so to those interested it may be coming soon to US tv.

Or, if you don't mind watching stuff on your computer, try out the VLC Media Player. It brute forces the region encryption to allow you to watch anything you want on your computer. Get it at the following website.
