Favorite New Network Show this Season?
 

November sweeps are over and most new shows premiering this season seem to be in full swing. If you had to pick ONE new network show that you couldn't live without, what would it be?

i picked Smallville, cause it's great...but I also LOVE UNDECLARED as well... what a great show!

ALIAS, without a doubt. I really didn't want to pick up any new shows this year, but I have a blast every week watching this one. Fun and action-packed, without being insulting to the audience. I've been an X-FILES fan for the previous 8 seasons, but this show (and, obviously, the fact that X-Files has gotten worse and worse over the past few years) has made me switch to ABC on Sundays.

Forgot probably the best new show this season, <I>Philly</I>. It could be said that my "favorite" new show is <I>Alias</I> because it's a lot of fun, but <I>Philly</I> is the "best" new show.

Since I could only pick one I chose 24, but I think Undeclared is just as good. I couldn't believe it when one character called another a "cuckcolding jerk."

Enterprise.

The only other new ones I watch are Undeclared and Philly.

Scrubs.

I become a bigger fan every time I watch this hilarious show. Definitely a keeper.

Not a great year for me. I'm watching Enterprise and Smallville, but neither one really does it for me...

I like Undeclared, and to a slightly lesser extent Scrubs in the sitcom category...

I'm enjoying Justice League: although many are finding it too shallow, it's at least as complex as I expected. I'm comparing to Superfriends rather than to the comic books, which I know nothing about, so I love it..

Fairly or not, I still haven't tried Alias -- mostly for the same reason I passed on Dark Angel year one -- when most of the fan chatter is about the leading girl's looks, I don't bother...

Still need to give Philly a better sample. I saw most of one episode and thought it was just OK. I have a strong ho-hum reaction to Mr. Bochco, which stems from my aversion to the cop drama format, but I like Kim Delany as an actress: I remember when she was a kid on All My Children...

Having seen every episode of both shows (except the last two <I>Dark Angel</I>s, since the show is way too much SUCK to even bother with anymore), I can safely say there is absolutely no comparison between the shows. <I>Alias</I> may not be your cup of tea for other reasons, but aside from very superficial details (female lead, has friends, kicks a$$), there's very littly similarity. <I>Alias</I> won't change the world with deep themes and thoughtful commentary on society, but it's easily the best action show I've seen on television in a long time. It's also not preachy or heavy-handed ... it simply is what it is ... lots of a$$-kicking with a surprisingly intriguing plot. If you can get ahold of all the episodes in order, it would be worth checking out. Otherwise, it's probably not worth it. But to be honest, it's one of the shows I can't wait to see each week.

I'd recommend giving it a shot, but like anything, it's not the kind of show EVERYONE will like. <I>Philly</I> is not your typical legal show with outlandish plots, grandiose summations, wildly clever criminal minds, etc. It's not <I>The Practice</I>. It's also not a soap opera like <I>L.A. Law</I>. And it's certainly not <I>NYPD Blue</I>, but if I had to compare it to a recent Bochco series, it would be <I>NYPD Blue</I>, but only on a small level.

So far, the show has been very low key. There are some good themes and lessons to be learned from the show, but they've made a concentrated effort for realism. This doesn't provide for sweeps-style scripts every week, but to me, it makes a very interesting show. If you like Delaney, Tom Everett Scott, Rick Hoffman, and Kyle Secor like I do, it's very easy to enjoy the simple everyday aspects of their lives. There's lots of balance to the show. Sometimes the cases are boring. Sometimes they're compelling. She wins, she loses, she asks for continuances ... it's realistic. And while this isn't a "Single Working Mother" type of show, her character does happen to be a single working mother, and they do a good job showing the difficulties that presents without bogging down the show with <I>Family Matters</I> style "I learned something today" moments.

Anyway, I really appreciate shows like this. The dialogue and acting are wonderful. And the scripts do a good job of making interesting stories without relying on sensationalist tactics. It kind of reminds me of the old days of <I>Law & Order</I>. If you're not a Bochco fan, <I>Philly</I> might not do it for you, but it's definitely worth another look.

Oh, and the police aren't inept. Many lawyer or private eye shows make the police look inept to save their scripts. Not here. Sometimes the cops screw up, sometimes they save the day. Balance.

It was a tough call between 24 and Alias, but I chose 24. Realistically though, I try not to miss either one of them.

I like scrubs b/c it has one of the "Bobs" from Office Space.

Scrubs is so great. And the Bob you're talking about, I think, is John C. McGinley, or something like that. I also like 24, though... I don't know if I can put Scrubs over 24, or vice versa... they're both such good shows, in completely different ways.

Of the new shows, I currently only watch 24. So, that's my vote :D.

I would have picked Inside Schwartz but its not on the list so I picked my second fave - Scrubs.

Me too. :) I love them both and don't miss either. As for other new shows I watch, so far I have also stuck with Smallville and Enterprise, though only barely.

Easily picking "Scrubs", which I think is the best new network show in the past <B>few</b> years. Just my opinion, but I think it's the perfect blend of edgy, strongly written comedy with just a little drama. John C. McGinley is also brilliant in it.

24's the only I always watch... I've seen a couple Alias and Undeclared episodes, and both were good, but nothing I'd watch regularly.

I would have to vote for the Bernie Mac Show. I've only seen a few, but they have been hilarious. It's like a real life Simpsons. Also, I've enjoyed 24, but I'll think I'll tape the rest of the season because I'm too impatient to find out what happens. It drives me nuts having to wait a week to see what happens during the next hour.

While the fanboys might be complaining I find it refreshing and hilarious. It is impossible to take an animated series and turn it live action and keep everyone happy. I think they have succeeded, great actors and dialogue what more do you want? Sure beats all of these tired guys and chicks with guns shows that are on every 5 mins.

Out of the list provided, I picked Smallville. It was a hard choice between that and 24.

I'm finding Enterprise to be sooooooooooooo bland. If it doesn't get more interesting by the end of the season, I may give it up. I feel I should at least give it the same as I did the big POS called Voyager.

I can't say anything about Justice League because I haven't seen it yet.

I wanted to choose a "tie" option between Alias and Smallville but since there's none, I picked Alias since I get to see it every week when it's on. Smallville I gotta tape and watch afterwards. But they're really tied for me.

24 would be a very close second.

I can't believe more people haven't voted for "Undeclared." I think this show is just getting better every week and I really hope it stays on the air – I keep having scary "college flashbacks" from it but it's funny and real at the same time with an excellent cast. The only other new shows I've watched are "Enterprise," which I only saw the first two episodes of because my SUCK local cable actually doesn't have a UPN affiliate, and "The Tick" which is OK but just doesn't grab me like the cartoon did, it's one of these shows that seems more like it's "supposed" to be amusing than it actually is...

But go watch "Undeclared," dammit! I don't want this one to get cancelled after only one season! :)

Scrubs.

They have the most well-developed characters on television - most notably, Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley). Each episode is better and funnier than the last.

I'm also enjoying Alias, The Tick and 24.

Undeclared is okay, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to watch.

I gave Smallville a chance, but after two episodes I had to bail. The only interesting character on the show is Lex. Lana and Clark are so dull.

Bernie Mac scares me with his freaky eyes. :D

And I haven't seen Philly.
