Matrix on TNT: "How about i give you a flipper."

In the scene where Neo is being interogated by Agent Smith they did the stupiest Dub i've ever seen. Neo says "Well, how about i give you a flipper" .... Is it really that bad of a phrase to say "give you the finger" ... They didn't show the act of giving the finger, but dubbing it just seemed stupid. If they can say "damn" and show people getting shot up, then why can't they say "give you the finger"

Anyway, i just wanted to rant. I turned it off and put in the DVD. :)

"Yes, Goose, I know. 'The Finger.'"

Just one more reason to not watch "broadcast" movies.

I'm sorry, I hate it when it does that. :)

ROFLMAO! That's just about the silliest, most pointless dub over I've ever heard of. :D

 That's the first thing I thought when I saw this topic. I thought, what does "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" have to do with "The Matrix"

They were probably afraid all the 5 year olds watching the movie would ask their parents what "the finger" was, and their fragile little minds would be warped for ever!! ;)

you can show people getting shot, raped, stabbed and blown up, but let's not say 'give you the finger'! or show nipples! it's amazingly ridiculous what can and can't be shown on tv.

Studies have shown that certain motor skills that are not learned at an early age will be unavailable later in life. Kids who have not flipped the bird by that time will find it almost impossible later on, leading to social problems and excessive forum posting (padding).

:D

Monkey boy, in any other civilised country, an adult movie would not be edited like that, and human body parts would be treated as human body parts. Violence would have a bigger chance of getting cut though. Oh well, no place is perfect.. but at least that makes a little more sense...

For some reason, Americans think it's alright to show people getting MURDERED, but bad words or human body parts? evil, can't show kids though! Maybe this is part of the reason why violent crimes are so high and we're so sexually repressed in this country. (I don't think that's the major reason, for anyone who loves censorship who wants to bash me.)

Honestly, this movie was ment for peole old enough to handel the "finger" and nothing should be cut. No movies on TV should be changed in anyway. Just don't let kids watch it.

That is a bad dub.
My favorite is Big Lebowski:"This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps."
Also watching Mallrats is great just because you here more of the bad dub guys voice than Jay's.

Triple S 12-22-01 11:10 PM

Speaking of cuts, I noticed they cut out "sex sandwich" from Face/Off on NBC tonight. Grrrr.

Crazy Aoshi 12-23-01 01:50 AM

My favorite edited for tv dub is still "Yippie ka yay mother falcon". Of couse, they couldn't say the original line on broadcast tv. I don't see a problem with the word "finger" from the Matrix.

I was really interested when Pulp Fiction was screened here in Australia, they ended up replacing MF with 'Mah Friend'. Say it out loud and your lips still look like you're saying MF.

Sadly they'll never show Reservoir Dogs on TV though :(

"did you fun my wife?!"

BizRodian 12-26-01 05:38 AM

Smokey and the Bandit had Son of a Bitch replaced with "Scumbum" didn't it?

This censorship just pisses me off so much, it only happens here too... I guess we can't handle naughty words...

Charlie Goose 12-26-01 10:00 AM

How's this for an edit? I was watching Scrooged will Bill Murray on TNT and they cut out his entire evil promo for the live Scrooge his network was doing.

ClarkKentKY 12-26-01 10:25 AM

Probably because of its tone "WAR.....DISEASE....DEATH...." The narrator just keeps mentioning bad things that a network may still find a little too close-to-home to put on the air...

...and "Ain't no way you came from my loins" becomes "...from my lines."

BTW, it's NOT censorship when...

...awww, forget it. :(

BizRodian 12-27-01 02:02 PM

I know technically by the definition it's not.

It is still infuriating and makes no sense. So much for a free country, TV stations are too scared to have the word "finger" and "loins."

Has anyone really thought about this? why are adult movies edited? why do TV shows shown past a child's bedtime have the swears bleeped out? it makes no sense.

ClarkKentKY 12-27-01 04:23 PM

 You said "finger loins"

BizRodian 12-29-01 01:06 AM

Better get someone in here and change it to Flipper Lines!

Breakfast with Girls 12-29-01 11:28 AM

Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you Flipper ...and you give me my phone call?

I would love to see this on TNT, I cannot believe this one made it out. Too funny.
