Jeremiah (Showtime) News
As I was preparing to alter my current DirecTV package, I thought I'd try to verify that 'Jeremiah' would in fact still be airing on January 11. Showtime's website had nothing about it, and it wasn't on the schedule anywhere. As though he read my mind, jms posted this today:
The situation we've encountered is the same encountered by a number of TV series and movies post -September 11th. The show deals with a post-apocalyptic environment after a virus has wiped out about six billion people...which may (or may not) be a sensitive issue in the eyes of potential viewers. So the powers that be are gauging when it might be safe to go forward with it; we expect to know something in the next couple of weeks since they have to start making up their schedules soon.
jms
They are contracted for 20 hours and, as I understand it, have already shot a couple of them, so the show will exist. It's just a question of when. Personally, I think this is the perfect time for a show like this. But I don't like to hide from our past or fear the future like the television and movie execs expect me to.

What I'm hearing now, and I hate to say it ... is March ... or *gasp* June. The original date was supposed to be January 11. Everything's still up in the air, and I see no mention of it anywhere on Showtime's website.
From what I understand jms has written the 2 hour pilot and will do 9 more episodes (many of which have already been shot). Sam Egan's doing 8 episodes, and some other joker will likely write the last. But with some 9 episodes already in the can and a full order from Showtime for 20 hours, it will definitely exist. I think they've also signed a syndication deal as well, but I don't know any details of that.

you want news. i gots da news for you!
let's just say that i am working somewhere directly connected to the production of this television series.
the series understandably underwent some changes after Sept 11 and MGM is paying special attention to the sensitive aspects of the storyline, however it is still a darn good story.
i, myself, have not had the opportunity to see an entire episode (i did watch some of one during lunch one day), since they have have provided me with a copy for me to watch at home..
more importantly i have airing date information for you fine folks:
the premiere episode will first be shown on Sunday March 3rd at 8 p.m. with two more showings later that week. those later showings are Friday March 8th in what will ultimately be its regular timeslot following Stargate SG-1 at 10:45 and alternatively Saturday the 9th at 10 p.m.
hope this info pleases ya'll.

oh, and to give you a little back story on what happened post-911..
they were planning on rolling out the biggest internet advertising campaign in history on a date in mid to late september, i believe... and then the terrorists hit..
the advertising campaign was to have included banners saying things along the lines of:
What if the world was devastated in a single instant? What if thousands upon thousands of people died in an instant? etc etc..
(those are not verbatim)
but with them necessarily having to pull the ad campaign, an inevitable delay happened as they had to rework the show as well.. (as i said in my previous post, nothing too dramatic, they just had to work around sensitive discussions, etc)
anyway, that's a little reasoning behind the delay..

Thanks so much, di doctor! Waiting is SO much easier if I have a target date in mind. And thanks for the explanation of the delays - I expect that the show will be fantastic and the sensitivity is wise imho.

Wonderful! Thanks, di doctor. It's great to have some facts to draw from. Now I can start to plan when to re-subscribe to Showtime. Fridays at 10:45 is a pretty crappy timeslot I would think, but I don't care ... TiVo will set me free. Anyway, I can't wait for this series. Thanks again for the great info.

although i agree that friday at 10:45 is a pretty bad slot, it couldn't be better considering the network it is on:
Stargate SG-1, being the lead-in show, is Showtime's highest rated show! so this will ideally provide a nice carry-over!

I agree that for Showtime that's a great lead-in. And it's not like I'll be watching anything else during that timeslot.
Oh, and for those interested, here's what I understand the first 10 episodes to be named. Obviously they're subject to change.
di doctor, thanks again for the info!

i can actively verify those names and even give a loose order to some of them:
and please, call me ringding.

(the "di" is just a slurred version of "the")

i've got so many other things i could be telling you, but i don't wish to get fired..
but, i can tell you there is a different episode titled
it also appears as if there will be 20 (or 19, if you count the first as two separate episodes) this season with Luke Perry directing the final one.

i'm not sure if the site is up yet, but:
just checked, it ain't up. it will be up in the near future though, so check it every other day or so.. it is for a contest relating to Jeremiah that is too cool. i don't want to spoil it for you.
-di doctor-
oh, and i realize it hasn't started airing yet, but if you like it when it does, please write to Showtime and tell them so. it will encourage them! (ESPECIALLY if you subscribe(d) to Showtime exclusively for Jeremiah! this will encourage them to renew it season after season...)
