Just turned off my Directv account and .....

The dude says he's turned everything off and now he's going to transfer me to the customer loyalty department! I waited about two minutes and then hung up figuring I'd done what I intended to do. What were they going to do, harass me?

More than likely, they would have made a special offer to keep you as a customer. Guess they flunked big time.

Yes they also refer to it as the customer retention department. They give you incentives to try to keep you from canceling. You probably should have held on. They been know to give away 6 months of free service, free receivers etc etc.

If I were you, I'd call back to make sure the first guy disconnected the account.

Yeah usually companies like that (Cable) will offer you a month or two free service for staying on board.

2 months ago I actually UPGRADED my service from digital cable, to the HDTV receiver box with digital cable. And somehow in their computers it triggered as a "cancellation to digital cable", so their "retention dept." called me and offered me 1 free month of service, plus an additional 3 months of HBO and Cinemax to stay with them.
After the one month, or 3 months, I still wanted to cancel just call them back.

I said "SURE!" (especially since I wasn't even cancelling).

Might have to "threaten" to cancel ONCE A YEAR FROM NOW ON!?

Directv did the same to me. They especially started to offer me LOTS of free programming, etc when I mentioned that I was not switching back to cable, but switching to the Dish Network. hehehehhee
