What did you guys think of BoB??

Now that it is over, what did you guys think of Band of Brothers overall?. I thought it was an extremely well made and realistic show, and it was pretty much everything I thought it would be. The acting was very good and I was especially impressed by the guy who played Winters. The battle scenes were all extremely realistic and well made and with every episode the show seemed to get better. On the whole it is one of the best shows I have ever seen.

I thought it was great, but then I'm a sucker for war flicks. After seeing the interviews on 'standing alone together' I'll second your thought about Winters. My wife and I were commenting that it was a great casting job, they seemed to talk the same, and even had a pretty close resemblance. It was cool to see these guys who served together more than 50 years ago talking about each other like they had just hung out the day before.

Loved it. I'll be picking up the DVD when it comes out.

I think we covered this already in about 5 other threads, but it's good enough to have another discussion.

As I said before, I really enjoyed it. It did what 'Saving Private Ryan' couldn't do. It told a real story instead of some fairy tale Dreamworks nonsense. The actors were incredibly well cast, so much so that it was scary. Heffron and Garnere ... my God ... it's like they went back in time and cloned those guys. Winters was incredible ... all of them were incredible. I still think 'From the Earth to the Moon' was a better overall production, but that's like saying I'd rather have 500 billion dollars than 499 billion dollars.

I was particularly impressed with how faithful the series was. I never felt like they were insulting me with "hollywood" nonsense, especially in the final episode.

'We Stand Alone Together' was particularly moving. I could probably sit and listen to those men talk all day long. They did such an excellent job capturing who these men really were, each one quite unique and yet so much the same.

Considering their history, I always expect the highest quality from HBO and am more critical of them than I am of some of the trash we get from the broadcast networks, but again, they did not disappoint. They've set the bar so far above everyone else, and yet they still continue to clear that bar with flying colors.

Some people say it won't have rewatchability, but I'll definitely be prepared to watch these again when the DVDs come out in a year. To me, real people facing real situations is infinitely more compelling than anything someone can dream up in their imagination.

Absolutely. If anything, the documentary was too short. To me, a Band of Brothers DVD set won't be complete without it.

I was hoping the same thing, that they include more interviews on the dvd when they aren't pressed to squeeze that amount of interviews into a 1.5 hour show.
