Band of Brothers ep. #8 [spoilers]

Another good episode. It's good to have Colin Hanks in the picture. It was pretty cool seeing the bullets fly through the night sky with the lights zipping by. Next week looks to be like another awesome episode. Kind of left the audience hanging with the preview they showed if anyone caught that...

If I'm not mistaken in episode 9:
Spoiler:
Easy company stumbles upon a Concentration Camp. Could be a very intense episode.

The episode was very good tonight, although there wasn't as much fighting as in previous episodes but they did a good job of showing how tired and worn down all the soldiers are.

I liked how all the new guys came in with clean new uniforms while the rest who had been in all the fighting were in real dirty tattered uniforms.

Captain, uh... Major Winters is the man!!

I don't get what happened with the new Lieutenant though. I mean, I understand that they think he's useless in combat but they only gave him one chance though. Besides that, another stellar episode. Next week is definitely when they find
Spoiler:
a concentration camp. There's no other reason I can think of that would make Colonel Sink call his superior down there.
Nice going for Winters, though I don't understand exactly what he did to deserve it, other than
Spoiler:
faking reports
. But I'm sure you'll think of something and hit me over the head with it.

I guess he took care of his men and accomplished the mission.

Great episode. Did a great job of putting us in the newcomer's role.

I wish there had been an episode by now focused on Ron Livingston (sp?) but next one should be interesting to say the least.

I liked this episode..Winters is the man, too bad he can't actually be with the men on the missions like in the beginning..

He is definately a good leader, not only do his men respect him tremendously but he is a very savvy tactician...as far as faking the report (his first of the eight episodes) nothing good would have come of the mission.

Why in the heck did they promote the West Point dork to First Lieutenent..??

'Cuz he was no use to them on the battlefield.

I kind of got the feeling it was 'ol boy network type of thing, being a west pointer and all. Get him a little combat experience, then ship him back off to be a staff officer somewhere.

I'm not clear on what happened to Lipton (Lt. Wahlberg) at the end.
Spoiler:
I know he got the honorable discharge but i didn't hear a bit of dialog after that. Does that mean he's totally out of the picture or are they giving him some other commission?

That's what I was thinking...one of those, "you were in battle, congratulations, now you're a general"...

BTW...Good to see Lipton getting the recognition he deserves..

He was given his honorable discharge as an enlisted man. He was then promoted to lieutenant (I think).

I think Winters got promoted because:

1) Although he faked the report, he still does everything for his men, and still completed the first mission.
2) People died, this is realistically why a lot of people move up the ranks so quickly in war time.

What I really love about the show is that since I don't know ANY of the actors ( except for Donnie Walhberg ), I identify them by their characters. That's another problem I had with "Earn This!" aka Saving Private Ryan. No matter how much I tried, I just couldn't "see" Capt. Miller. Only Forrest Gump, I mean Tom Hanks. Hanks is ALWAYS Hanks in every one of his movies.
