The Emmy's are cancelled (once again)

Due to the current world events, the Emmy Award show has been cancelled (was to be shown tonight, but many actors/actresses were a bit uncomfortable with a large public gathering for such an away show - as if terrorists really care about the entertainment industry...)

link?

Wazootyman 10-07-01 02:45 PM

Tom Brokaw was just talking about it on NBC

CarlosTheDwarf 10-07-01 02:51 PM

1st time they were postponed. Now they are officially cancelled.

Blaster1 10-07-01 03:36 PM

bdshort 10-07-01 03:48 PM

Won't they give out the awards anyway, just not have a ceremony? Lets hope this trend doesnt last too long :mad:

And Buffy had none. I wanted to applaud the nomination committee for FINALLY recognizing 'The Daily Show' but they will remain under the category of "Sham" until they get their heads out of their asses completely and recognize the other great shows on television that are being ignored.

Now they're saying it's just postponed again, not cancelled.

Actually, it's "cancelled for today" (semantics, I know) ... they haven't decided whether to "postpone" it or "cancel" it yet.

Cancel all of these self congragulatory entertainment awards forever. Open up some space on tv for shows about the real news and what is going on in the "real" world.

elektra 10-07-01 05:58 PM

Cancel them and give the people their awards. What should it matter to them if they get it in private or on national TV? They can post the winners on-line, in the newspaper and the Hollywood Reporter.

das - Sham sounds about right.

With at least five 24 hour news channel right now, how many more do you want? ;)

As for the celebs being "uncomfortable with the large gathering" I have to LAUGH. rotfl rotfl

Actors and celebs are so self-aggrandizing it makes me yack. Do they really think that they matter that much in the world political picture???

I work around these folks daily and you should've seen them the past few weeks - all trying to make 9-11-01 about them.
:yack:

:D

I don't suppose this will prompt the number of awards shows to be cut down, will it?

My 2 pfennigs:

Grammys = Mega-Size Joke
Emmys = Super-Size Joke
Oscars = Extra-value Joke
All other awards shows = Happy-Meal Jokes

das Monkey 10-08-01 01:50 PM

Yeah, the Grammys are the biggest load of crap imagineable. There's no validity to them whatsoever.

The Oscars and the Emmys rotate. Some years, they seem very reasonable and show a real eye for talent. Other years, it seems they're a complete sham.

99% of the other "award" shows are complete garbage. A select few, I'd consider the "real" award shows that mean more than the Oscars/Emmys/Grammys/etc, and of course, those never get televised :)

Jason 10-08-01 03:58 PM

They should just announce the winners and be done with it. There'll be no real surprises anyhow. Once the win once, it seems the same people/shows win every year for the remainder of their runs.

They're as equally pointless as the grammys.
