Legally Blonde to become an ABC Sitcom

This just in at Gist.com:

ABC has won a bidding was to turn the hit movie Legally Blonde into a sitcom set for next fall, Variety reports.

Legally Blonde is about a ditzy sorority queen played by Reese Witherspoon in the movie who follows her boyfriend to Harvard Law School. The movie, which was made for $18 million, has surprised Hollywood by pulling in more than $93 million in the U.S. so far.

No decision has been made yet on who will play the Witherspoon role in the TV version.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'd guess that its success is built on Witherspoon's incredible acting ability towards quirky characters. Seems like it'd be a mistake to get someone new, but she probably won't want to do that character for a sit-com run. "Clueless" (TV), here we come.

The movie was great I have to admit. However, unless the tv show has Reese... I don't see it staying.

I can't believe Clueless has stayed without Silverstone.

Jury: Well part of the reason why it has lasted is that most of the supporting cast came back for the show, including Wallace Shawn.. I love that guy!

P.S. He ain't dead. He's mostly dead. ;-)

No, no. Parker Lewis was actually kinda funny and it was on FOX. No, this Ferris Bueller ( NBC ) ripoff was on CBS. I can't remember the name...

Sorry I couldn't remember it - gave it a shot. I don't remember PLCL as being funny (as always, comedy is a personal preference), but I sure thought the lead actor was cute!

It'll probably end up like Clueless. A year on ABC, cancelled then moved to UPN for two years. Oh and the girls father will lose a tremendous amount of weight during the move.

A League of Their Own and Working Girl were made into series too. Both bombed.

Geo: Looking up the trivia for Election at IMDB, I find it surprising that Reese Witherspoon was a last minute replacement when the original actress had differences with the director. I mean, can you imagine anyone else pulling off this role? Goddamn it, I just wanted to slug her.. I knew a girl EXACTLY like her in high school. Ick! Anyway, Reese is a wonderful actor. I enjoy pretty much everything she's in.
