Why couldn't they get "Alice" instead of "Cousin Oliver"?

Hasn't it already been established that Cousin Oliver was the weakest link?

Poor cousin Oliver, still regarded as a jinx after all these years. He only appeared in the last 5 episodes of the series:
The pie fight at the movie studio,
Cindy thinks she's the new Shirley Temple,
Bobby as a pool hustler,
Sam the butcher thought to be a spy,
and Greg with the orange hair.

In the TV ads, what' s with the quote "I'll never date you again" or something similar? I didn't understand that.

In real life, Barry Williams had a crush on Florence Henderson, and I guess they went out on a date once (if my memory of Brady-related made-for-TV movies serves me correctly).

Yep, they did go out on one date. Rumors have abounded for years that they had a sexual relationship, but it was just the one date.

Spoiler:
By the way, Chris Knight (Peter) won about 50 grand for his charity.
Order of elimination
Robbie Rist (cousin Oliver)
Barry Williams (Greg)
Eve Plumb (Jan)
Maureen McCormick (Marcia)
Mike Lookinland (Bobby)
Florence Henderson (Carol)
Susan Olsen (Cindy)
