Mr. Rogers is done

He's hangin up the sweater...
but the reruns will continue and he's not even gonna make the last show indicate that it's the last show...
sad :(

'E's passed on! This Mr. Rogers is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!

THIS IS AN EX-ROGERS!!

I'm sorry I couldn't resist after I saw the thread title :)
Granted he ain't dead yet, just his show.

It's You I Like
© 1971, Fred M. Rogers

It's you I like,
It's not the things you wear,
It's not the way you do your hair--
But it's you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you--
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys--
They're just beside you.

But it's you I like--
Every part of you,
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you'll remember
Even when you're feeling blue
That it's you I like,
It's you yourself,
It's you, it's you I like.

It's such a good feeling to know you're alive
It's such a happy feeling, you're growing inside
And when you wake up ready to say
I think I'll have a snappy new day (snap snap)
It's such a good feeling
A very good feeling
A feeling to know
That I'll be back
When the day is new
And I'll have more ideas for you
And you'll have things you'll want to talk about
I will too!

Goodbye, neighbor!

Can you say, RERUN?

I thought you could. ;)

Did you know there were an alternate line to the lyrics of "It's Such a Good Feeling"? The one he sang on the show was, "I think I'll have a snappy new day," but the original line went, "I think I'll grow 12 inches today."

I have the Mr. Rogers Neighborhood Songbook, which contain the piano transcriptions and lyrics to the songs. My parents gave it to me way back in 1973. (I began watching the show in 1971.) The songbook contains several of the tunes he would sing time and time again, plus a bunch of others that I don't think he ever used, or if he did, they were done in the earliest episodes.

When I was a little kid, I used to think that red building shown in the beginning and end of the show was where he went home. :)

In this day and age of violent kids cartoons( I love 'em but I'm an adult ;) ) and inappropriate tv shows for very young kids.....

Mr. Rogers was/is an American treasure.

King Friday would not approve of your language, young man.

yes! i couldn't remember her name but she was damn creepy. i don't think a bitter old dried-up lesbian puppet fits into the neighborhood of make believe very well. she was damn scary.

His decision to not indicate the last show as the "last show" was smart, and is important to continue the magic that this show brings to children. Mr. Rogers comes into his television home every day, and leaves, promising to see the kids again. The show will continue to go on, even though he won't be making any more.
