Best Series on HBO?

Please vote for your favorite original series on HBO
I am leaving out MR. Show, and Larry Sanders to give the other shows a fair chance (snicker)

conscience 08-05-01 07:13 PM

All of them are above par, well except for Arli$$..which is total crap.

But if I picked one, and it is my favorite of them all, I picked The Sopranos.

I am including OZ even though it was cancelled and leaving out MR. Show to give the other shows a fair chance (snicker)

Oz hasn't been cancelled...they're just between seasons. The Oz section of HBO's web site says new episodes are coming "early 2002".

Can't wait.

OZ where's my dvd:grunt:

Blaster1 08-06-01 03:00 AM

I WANT OZ DVD TOO, ITS BEEN ON 5 SEASONS, WHERE THE F*CK IS IT?! SEX IN THE CITY GOT A DVD AFTER THE FIRST SEASON!

Spicollidriver1 08-06-01 05:11 AM

I have to admit I love the Sopranos, but refelcting OZ edges it out, and I think it is easier to make OZ last too I'm not sure how much more Sopranos there should be.

cineman 08-06-01 08:57 AM

The Sopranos with Curb Your Enthusiasm a close second! New season coming!! Woo hoo!

Decker 08-07-01 07:11 AM

To those two people who clicked "Arli$$" : That was an accident, right? You ment the Sopranos, didn't you?? I have no idea why that stinking heap is still running. It sullies an otherwise outstanding line up.

You might want to add "Hard Knocks" to that poll. The first episode was awesome; by far the best hour of reality TV I've ever seen (and this is from a former Survivor fan). I can't wait for Wednesday's episode 2. Am I the only one here who loves HBO, but never watches a theatrical movie on the channel?

Apocrypha 08-07-01 08:27 AM

I left out Hard Knocks because it is on its 2nd episode while it is an engaging program I would have had to include shows like Reverb and Dennis Miller live, and even Chris Rock so.........
It is true that they rarely show a motion picture I want to see, but all that quality original programming makes it more than worth the $10 a month.
I have to wonder if the people who voted for Arli$$ are on medications or employees of the show.(or both)

 agree 100%

I picked the Sopranos, but I love Sex and the City and Six Feet Under as well. The Sopranos just gets me all excited about seeing it and although I feel that with the other 2 it just isn't as powerful. You guys ever wonder why Arli$$ was pushed back behind Six Feet Under after Sex and the City? Because Arli$$ is pure crap and people might be turned off from HBO and miss Six Feet Under. Robert Wuhl must have some deal with HBO or something.

Someone asked if they were the only ones who watch HBO but not the theatrical movies. I sometimes watch the movies, but I find HBO's Original Series and their self-produced movies to be great and sometimes well beyond what is in the theaters.

Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Sex And The City

at the start of the sex/sfu seasons, I was watching sex first
then sfu, now it is the other way around, I tivo them
while watching something else, and then i watch 6feet 1st
as I am intrigued as to how each new episode is going to be
I mean the development that has gone on in this season is
amazing.

But I will always love the Sopranos, such great writing, and a lot more humour than 6feet

Geofferson 08-08-01 10:21 AM

Number 1 ever: Sopranos
Close second : Six Feet Under
Third" Sex And The City.
Possible contender for #1: Band Of Brothers.
America Undercover is also up there for me.

I am with you on the last one. :)

Apocrypha 08-12-01 08:25 PM

Well there you have it irrefutable proof that germans love David Hasselh..... I mean americans love the sopranos.

Sopranos appropriately enough starts its rerun from the first episode on tonight on HBO.
Six Feet Under is still my personal favorite right now but the Sopranos is undeniably quality television as the fine people who voted in this poll proved.
Larry David what can you do 1 vote for what is probably the funniest show on TV and certainly HBO.
Look for the HBO reality based programming poll.

JaseXF3 08-14-01 12:59 AM

I can't vote. It's not even fair. The Sopranos and Sex and the City are 2 of the best shows on TV and they are totally different. I love them both equally, but drama always wins over comedy and dramedies anyway.

The more important question is why can't HBO and the people who make these shows for big bucks work as hard as the people making the other network shows? For me, the Sopranos aren't on enough, they don't make close to the 23 or so shows each season and the schedule is whacky. Same for Sex and the City. And HBO doesn't show them in a way to get new people into it via reruns. Thankfully, HBO is showing the whole series from episode one to the present. Why did they wait so long? Tony and the ducks...that was just such an amazing show from the very first day. My has Meadow grown! Check out this month's Maxim.

But they won't have any shows ready for this fall or even the spring of 2002. They will only be ready to air NEXT summer. That's ridiculous for the fans. And on top of that, HBO is likely to push the start of the next season until next fall, so they don't waste the new shows in the summer when fewer people are watching. HBO hasn't made an official decision on this yet.

Still, all problems aside, these are 2 GREAT shows! No doubt about it.
