Leno vs Letterman
As if there needed to be any more evidence that Letterman is tons better than Leno (let's not even think about Leno's lame comedy: JayWalking, Hollywood Survivor, Iron Jay, Beyondo and all his other un-imaginative, humorless dreck, not to mention his lame interviewing skills), but Letterman gets 5 (all for directing, writing, producing or performing) Emmy nominations and Leno gets 3, none of which were for writing, producing or directing.
is there anyone out there in OTTER-land that finds Leno funny? His "hallmark", the monlogue, isn't even funny. |
Leno SUCKS. I can't stand watching his show. He tries to hard to be funny and most of his comedy is humorless. There's only one segment on his show that I slightly enjoy and that's "headlines". But that does not need any writing since it's stupid healines that were sent in bny viewers or found by a researcher.
Letterman on the other hand is hilarious, I like his brand of humor. |
Leno is SUCK.

no like the leno

Letterman
Letterman is #1 in my book. Leno spends too much time with his Battlebots.
|
nice to see others agree that Letterman runs circles around Lame-o. Letterman's witty comedy takes the cake, and his recent (post heart-op) "chats" he has at his desk after the monlogue and before the first guest/comedy piece are priceless. Just Dave being Dave at his absolute best. It's pretty clear he has a background in broadcasting.
And the Dave/Paul banter has never been better. Plus the under-rated Alan Kalter..... Then toss in the success of WWP, that produces "Ed" and "Everyone Loves Raymond", and you see Letterman for what he is: not just a top notch entertainer but a television icon. Let's hope when all is said and done that people remember him for his innovatie style that still remains and not the oft-mentioned ratings woes. |
Letterman rules! He can talk about anything and make it interesting and funny.
|
Letterman rules.
(1) He's funnier. (2) Johnny Carson essentially gave Letterman his blessing as his successor. Has Carson ever even been on the Tonight Show with Leno? Even once? I'd also like to point out that although I don't really care about Julia Roberts, I think she's turned out to be one of the better Letterman guests. I'd even say she's right up there with Teri Garr (back when she was a regular). |
Conan

"My name is Martin Sheen
and i love Jay Leno..." |
Letterman is great with his low key, casual, oddball sense of humor and conducts his interviews with a knowing wink and jibes that "celebrity" really is mostly a load of bloated crap. Leno is bland and obvious in his humor (plus he drones on far too long in his monologue and skits) and he is one of the most relentlessly, stomach-churning, celebrity asskissers I have ever seen....But, more often than not, I usually only watch Conan.
|
I think that Dave is a great interviewer, and Jay is absolutely horrible at interviews. Jay's bits suck, but his monologue is decent. But I can't stand Paul -- that guy is an annoiyng weirdo. Whereas Kevin is super cool.
|
Yes Leno is the biggest a$$-kisser I have ever seen, it makes it impossible to watch his show because of it.
I used to never miss Letterman but haven't really watched more than a couple of shows in as many years, it's just satle to me now. The first 5 years of that show will never be matched. Conan is definitely the funniest out of all of them, I really like his wit and humor. Kilborn...that show is just a complete mess, no redeeming value at all. |
I love Kilborn, he's only second to dave. Conan is alright too, Leno sucks though.
|
i like leno over letterman, but i still like letterman. also, another reason i like leno is because kevin eubanks is so cool.

Originally posted by bodai Conan Conan makes more fun of himself than he does other people. Conan is funny and original and I just get the feeling that a lot fo what he says is off the top of his head. Leno has to read everything of cards and teleprompters and is just not funny. Kilborn is okay too, but I rarely watch his show. I was a big fan of his when he was on The Daily Show. His new show just isn;t as interesting for some reason, even though he took the "5 questions" bit with him. |
I've been a fan of Letterman since his daily show, and he's still the best.
Leno is a likable enough fellow, but I do not find him to be funny. Over the past several months, I've had the opportunity to watch quite a bit of Conan and Kilborn for the first time. Now that I've finished that horrible task, I can move on with my life and hope never to watch either show again. |
What are you people atlking about Leno Rocks

Of course, it's not like this is the first time this topic's been brought up, but that's alright.
As it has to be obvious once you've watched some of each host, Letterman is far and away the best. I used to go into long rants about how his band is miles above the Tonight Show's, and how Paul is so much better than Kevin, and the merits of Alan Kalter, Biff, Pat & Kenny, etc... but I don't feel like that right now. Leno is just absolutely horrible at interviewing... I can't watch more than about 10 seconds of an interview of his without just cringing, and yet I'd be entertained for hours straight of Dave interviewing the average Joe from Kansas. But anyway - on a different note, although I don't watch either that much, I've noticed that Kilbourn has greatly improved as of late, and Conan seems to be sinking... My scale used to be: Dave 10/10 Conan 7/10 Kilbourn 4/10 Jay 0/10 Now... Dave 10/10 Kilbourn 6/10 Conan 5/10 Jay 0/10 The only thing halfway amusing about Leno is the headlines bit. Period. |
Don't know the age of the people responding here so you may not know or remember, but it goes to show how much Carson is missed... he ruled them all

Letterman 10/10
Leno 8/10 Conan 7/10 Kilborn 7/10 They are all funny at one point or another :p |
I happen to think Leno is a lot better than Dave's third grade humor. Leno actually has a social commentary and sounds like he knows what is going on the world, whereas Letterman finds the most inane subjects and then beats them into the ground. Now I like Letterman just fine but I don't have to severely bash him to get my point accross.
And I agree with the earlier post that Paul sucks and that Leno cannot interview but I still like Leno better. Leno seems like he catches a little bit older crowd and Lettermen is maybe for the younger crowd. my 2 cents... |
Conan 10/10
Kilborn 9/10 Dave 8/10 Leno 4/10 i watch leno's headlines and sometimes the monolog, I live in houston and if you watch alot of Conan you know houston is the only city were it is delayed almost two hours so i can watch Conan and Kilborn, but that means i stay up till 2am so i am just a freak. |

Originally posted by namja Unfortunately Leno is about as smart as the people he interviews in the streets and makes fun of. And (at least according to Nielsen), Leno is more popular among the younger crowd ... Yet I found that although most people my age don't watch much of either show, most seem to prefer Leno. My best detective work suggests that they've never given Dave a chance, but just naturally turned to Leno because 1) NBC - 2) Bigger name guests (also more catered towards teen stars as guests) - 3) the Tonight's Show moniker - which is such a sad fact that Leno has his name on the banner that Carson so proudly wore for 30 years. Sad indeed. |
I like Letterman but Conan is definitely by far the best.
|
Letterman all the way. Leno sucks ass!!!!!
|
Conan Rules!
Letterman is a lot better than Leno. |
Leno over Letterman. I used to be a huge fan of Dave when he was on NBC. His humor was original and cutting-edge but when he moved to CBS, he became some old guy with the same old tired bits. Letterman still handles interviews well but the skits just don't work. I didn't think much of Leno when he took over the reins from Carson but his skits are funny. Maybe he kisses butt a little but he's quick with a joke. I don't watch either show on a regular basis but I still think Leno is better.
Conan has improved. Best part of his show is the writing in the skits. Big thumbs down for Kilborn. Dreadful. The question bit isn't funny or interesting. |

Letterman and his hair puff suck.
I watch Leno and Conan every night. |
Originally posted by namja You must really not watch at all. Leno is never quick with anything; the only times he appear to be quick are when the bit is scripted. I'm no comedian, but I see his jokes a mile away and can predict what "quick comment" is coming up. |
Daily Show with Jon Stewart...... can't beat Lewis Black and especially Nancy Walls spots..... she is so funny!
