South Park Debate
 

It seems that after every show we get a mini-debate over whether or not South Park has lost its edge or not. So, here is a thread to do that, without plaguing the episodic threads with the posts about South Park Sucks!

I happen to think that South Park is still very good. This last episode wasn't great, but it was still funny. I especially liked how Cartman was "trying" to kill himself.

I never realized that South Park's Moses was from Tron! That is so cool. I haven't seen Tron in a long, long time.

Anyway, South Park has some episodes that are funny and some that aren't. But there is always something in each episode that keeps me coming back.

Has Matt Stone ever done anything of any value ever?
Seems to me he is just leaching off the talent of his best friend, and without that he would be a complete showbiz nobody.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I have no idea how much collaboration goes into what Matt & Trey do. Granted, for something like Cannibal! The Musical, Trey was the creative force, and Matt was basically just an actor in it, but he did play the part well. If anyone can enlighten us as to the amount of collaboration used by these two then we would be bettar able to assess how much Matt has done of value. I for one thought that his acting in Baseketball was awesome. His character in Orgasmo was pretty funny as well.

Last couple episodes this year that I have seen, have been very funny. IMHO

It's still one of the best shows on television not only because it provides more than its share of laughs, but also because of its biting satire. The speed with which Trey and Matt are able to turn around current events and get them into episodes never fails to amaze me. The Elian Gonzalez-like episode, the election episode and even the "Paula Pondstone" joke in this last episode are so hilarious because they hold no punches. I don't think the show has lost its edge at all. I would hold the episodes they have done so far this season with any episode they have ever done.

The show has gotten more intelligent with time, and therefore will likely lose a some of its audience. It started off great and gained so much popularity that it descended into one fart joke after another. People latched on to that and created this annoying "South Park" craze. Matt & Trey forgiveably fell into a rut trying to keep those ratings by doing the same thing over and over. Once the fog had lifted, and the fickle media and television audience turned their attention elsewhere, the show got a chance to breathe again. Since then, I think they've held their own quite nicely, especially this season. The political and social satire is stronger than ever, more intelligent than its been in the past, and still quite funny. It has returned to "Appointment TV" for me, a spot it had fallen from a few years ago.

The previous run of episodes did take a definite dip in quality, but based on the season so far, it is back up to standard.

Compared to most so-called "comedy" shows on today, both network and cable, South Park continues to be miles above...
