What is the difference between the Pioneer model DVD-115 and DVD-116 ? They both appear to be 16X drives . Thanks

If it's the 115 vs the 116, check out Pioneer's website. I haven't looked hard enough to tell yet.

As I recall they have an older model section. It takes some searching to find. Unless they've changed it in the last month.

I kno i kno! I know the difference!

the 115 is the tray 16x. Its a lil older than the 116. the 115 is udma33 as opposed to the 116 which id udma66.

Plus, the 115 can be region free with an updated patch. the drive's factory firmware is RPC2, meaning it can play any region dvd, but after the 5th region change it'll become permanent. The updated PATCHED firmware changes it from RPC2 to RPC1. RPC1 is where the dvd drive itself is region free, but the region proctection is controlled bythe software player. There are also fixes for those, but u can find those elsewhere.

The 116 HAS NO REGION FREE SOLUTIONS! It is new, and there are NO UPDATED FIRMWARES for it yet. I has the 5 region change counter, and thats it.

So, the 116 differs from the 115 is that its UDMA66 and cannot be made region free.

I know this because I have the 115. I ordered the 116, and didnt know all this bfore i ordered it. Luckily, they screwed up my order and sent me the 115, so i kept it. Now I can watch my Crouching Tiger dvd. Peace.
