Okay I am putting my new system together and I have a question concerning memory. I have the Athlon 1Ghz socket A chip with the Gigabyte 7IXE4 motherboard. I am needing 256mb of memory and am not 100% what to look for.
Here is the specs of the board:
GA-7IXE4 AMD 750 Chipset
PROCESSOR Socket A
CHIPSET AMD 751 (Irongate) North Bridge*AMD 756 (Viper) South Bridge*Winbond W83977 I/O set*Winbond W83782 health chip
MEMORY 16MB to 768MB DRAM size*3 x 3.3V DIMM sockets*Supports 64/128/256 MB SDRAM*Supports ECC type DIMM (72bits)

Now do I need ECC type or not? Is this PC100 or PC133, or either?
Will one of these or both of these work with my set up?
  • Micron 256MB True PC133 7.5 NS (M256TRPC133), 32MB x 64, Part# MT48LC168A2TC-75C UNBUFFERED Gold leads,6 layer board 168pin 3.3 volt
  • Micron 256MB True PC133 w/ECC & SPD 7.5 NS (256MT133ES) 16*72/16*8 7.5Volts PC133 8NS with ECC- Error Correcting Code and SPD - Serial Port Detection.
I appologize if this seems like a stupid question, but I have not kept up with all the new memory so I am clueless on this matter. Thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure you're ok with non-ECC ram, just make sure it's 133....your bank account will thank you too.

http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...IXE4&x=10&y=14

this is crucial quality memory.
http://www.crucial.com/webpromo/
the webpromo link gives you a 15% discount on the memory and they have free 2nd day air shipping right now
the above link shows you the recommended memory for your board. I might use the ask the experts to see if this part number will work(I am sure it will but it never hurts to check)
part number CT32M64S4D7E for 89.24 +free ups + tax
this is a pc133 cas 2 256 MB dimm.

if you stick with the Dimms recommended i would get this-
part number CT32M64S4D75
this is a 256 MB dimm pc133 cas 3 for 84.99 + free ups 2nd day air and any sales tax= great price!

Good Luck!!

Edit: crucial is the micron direct selling store. that is these are micron quality chips direct from the factory
