Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
Long story short, I want to add an external flash drive so my iPhone will have more storage. I don’t want to just store photos on it, I want it to behave like an extension of the regular storage and let apps use the space on it. It doesn’t seem like that’s possible as the apps don’t “see” the flash drive I plugged into it. I know little of how this stuff works so thought I’d ask.

You'll have to buy a new iPhone with the desired amount of storage. Even jailbroken you can't install apps on non-internal storage.

Re: Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
I had a phone case years ago that had a battery and an internal drive, it slid into the lightning port and as a bonus, it was charged by a USB 2 port. no idea what it was called but it was about 5 years back so they are somewhat current.

You'll have to buy a new iPhone if you want more storage.
Apple does not want you to be able to use external storage on these at all; they want you to pay for their over-priced storage. With iOS stuff (iPhones, iPads) it's a good idea to get as much storage as you can afford if you think there's any possibility that you're going to need it, since these things bloat like dead raccoons. |
Re: Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
I’m beginning to think I don’t use my phone properly. I have a 64 gb and only 36 is used. Most of that is photos of my cat.

Plus with photos you can just sync it to the cloud and be good. I download my music on Spotify, but otherwise I also never seem to use my space up.

What is easiest and best way/device to transfer pics/vids from iPhone to pc? Can I do with iTunes? Download and erase all photos on iPhone to make space basically.

Just plug your iPhone into your PC with the USB end of the charging cable. The pictures and videos will show up in Windows Explorer. From there, you can drag them onto your PC's hard drive. |
Re: Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
Really, that easy? I thought I tried that and couldn’t bring pics up. Thanks, I’ll give it a go.

Re: Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
You may need iTunes installed for the drivers.

Your iPhone will show up under "This PC" in Windows Explorer. Click through the folders until you see the pictures. Mine looks like this: This PC > Apple iPhone > Internal Storage > DCIM > 100Apple I'm doing this on a Windows 10 PC without iTunes, so I don't know if you need any specific drivers from Apple. You do have to unlock his phone and give it permission to share. |
Re: Any iPhone experts? Want to increase storage
I use imazing and imo, it works way better than thru windows explorer or iTunes especially if you have a lot of pictures. It isn’t free though it does go on sale frequently
