Amazon Fire stick or Room?

I see the autocorrect bit me on the title and i missed it before posting. Its supposed to read Roku. OK, so I bought the NVidia Shield, but I am looking to get a smaller streaming device for a couple of bedrooms. Not used either of these but they do sound and look like the kind of thing I am after (small, easy to set up, stream Netflix etc. with option of Live TV).

So any advice or comments on experience with either?

I prefer the Roku for the menu and ability for Google Play (without sideloading it), but I will say the Fire Sticks are far more stable. I have had to reset my Roku numerous times over the year+ I have had it, but the Fire Stick just hums along with no problems.

What do you mean about option of live tv? Like a streaming tv service or adding an antenna for broadcast tv?

If you don't need Google Play, I'd say just go for the Fire Stick. They are on sale right now for $35 at most retailers.

Go for the Roku. Better interface and way more robust. And you can have Vudu.

Go for Roku... Better product (plays .mkvs with several different codecs).

And, even better, you're not supporing the Amazon monster or lining its coffers.

Win / Win.

I own both. Go with the Roku. It's the best streaming device.

The Roku Stick (1080p) is on sale for $35 right now.

If you have prime, go for whichever is cheapest. I don't like that you have to sideload Vudu and Google Play Videos on the Fire TV stick, but it's pretty easy.

Otherwise Roku.

The only caveat is if you want to access your local cable provider's app for streaming, you need to make sure the platform supports their app. AT&T Uverse has opted to not make an app for the Roku but does have one for the Fire TV/Android.

I've been going back and forth trying to decide on the 4k Fire TV Stick or the Roku stick that TheBigDave linked to. According to many of the Amazon reviews, the Roku stick seems to have issues with streaming Netflix. However, it seems like the Roku offers a lot more options for streaming compared to the Fire TV Stick.

Of all the Roku’s I have and use, not one has ever had issues streaming Netflix. I would also read some non Amazon reviews about the Fire Stick.

I went with the Roku sticks. They were on sale and for the bedrooms of the house its just all round easier. I have to admit that since going full on streaming there has been no looking back.
