Question about HP Color Laserjet printer - CP3505n

Not sure if anyone here has experience with HP Color Laserjet printers, but a co-worker just handed off a working but used CP3505n printer (circa 2007). Only problem is that the printer currently does not have any toner cartridges installed.

As I only need this printer for B&W documents, will the printer work if only the black ink cartridge is installed, or will I need to purchase all four cartridges (black, yellow, cyan and magenta) to simply be able to print in B&W?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Re: Question about HP Color Laserjet printer - CP3505n

You could manually bypass empty color cartridges by selecting "override at out" under the Replace Supplies menu option (and continue printing with just the remaining black cartridge), but I'm not sure what would happen if the color cartridges were missing/removed instead of just empty.

You of course would also want to set your printing mode to B&W or grayscale to "force" black-only printing.

Re: Question about HP Color Laserjet printer - CP3505n

It seems likely that the printer needs all the cartridges installed to work. It may give a “Cartridges Not Engaged 10.92.YY” error otherwise:

I found a place that has a full set of refilled cartridges for $128 total:

Lasers will only use the toner they need for each print, so if you print B&W, only the black toner will be used. You may find it handy to occasionally be able to print in color though.

Jay G. is correct. You need all cartridges to be present, even if empty, to print.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

Jay G. - I especially appreciate the link to the Ink Technologies cartridges. Also found a 15% off coupon taking the total down to $108.
