Re: Which search engine do you mostly use?

Google mostly, but I use DuckDuckGo from time to time. The other search engines seem lame to me. Tried Startpage recently, the results were somewhat lacking to say the least. Bing's a joke. AOL, Ask, Yahoo, I just don't particularly care for them. Haven't used Dogpile in a long time...

Also, Google does shady things in prioritizing their search results that I don't want to blindly support. For example:

Same. I read that is shows the same results as Google but I'm just not seeing it. It also looks too basic. I find it hard to search for stuff on it.

Right, agree about duckduckgo's privacy policy, but it seems like there simply aren't enough options. And it puts all search results in a frame, which is super annoying. You can't control the hits per page, date and time restrction, or country restriction.

They have a long ways to go, but I sincerely applaud their not collecting or storing any search results for possible nefarious misuse against you. The big G is getting more nefarious by the day in its "analytics" department.

Plus it pulls articles that show in recent days option but are actually years old. It truly sucks.

Same here.

Google.
But I "Bing" the minimum amount per day to get points to get giftcards. Not really searches, I just click each of the trending on Bing sections, and the click through the news sections.

Re: Which search engine do you mostly use?

For any field I know a lot about, Bing almost always returns better results these days than Google or DuckDuckGo (which really just uses Google's search engine but with privacy).

It's pretty apparent that Google has manually messed with the top search results for certain key words. The first page or two of Google's results are often low-content garbage for many topics and subjects.

Re: Which search engine do you mostly use?

0-0.com

That was a search engine I was the lead designer on, back in 1998-2000.

It was your typical dotcom of the era. Almost everyone was a Vice President. T-shirts and shorts every day to work. Most everyone was on drugs. We only ever made $2000 in revenue the entire time I was there and our Accounts Receivable couldn't even collect it since we weren't set up for credit card payments.

ALSO:

The VC came from various union pension funds out of Queens. The CEO and half the staff were members of the ****** family. The President was a Russian national who also ran, out of the same office, a limousine service, a Russian mail-order bride service, and an escort service, and I think they were all the same service.

There was an endless parade of smoking hot Russian women walking in and out any given time. A few worked there as admins/secretaries. One of them was a former stripper. She brought in another former stripper friend (and former crackhead) who ended up becoming a Lotus Domino system admin. Never one lesson!

The webmaster was a former D-list porn star who, in 1997, learned HTML so she could create and market her own website, got so good at web design that she left porn behind and became a webmaster. She was having an affair with the CEO, who knocked up and later married one of the Russian strippers. The pron star's husband also worked there, fresh off a 7-year stint in the pokey for cocaine trafficking.

The CIO was apparently caught offering data and other proprietary items to a competitor. He was gone overnight and no one ever saw him again. I checked FB and found out he's performing as Paul Stanley in a Kiss tribute band outside of Reno.

Then there were the management golf excursions with everyone rollin' X and one VP drove a golf cart into a lake.

BUT! We got Columbus Day off every year.

That was easily the most fun job I ever had...

Re: Which search engine do you mostly use?

Once you learn "Google-Fu" search techniques, it is hard to use anything else. I'm sure some other engines offer similar functionality, but I learned Google's first so that's what I stick with 98% of the time.
