Same. The 8s will be a huge upgrade from my 6. Even if I wanted the X, I don't think I could justify the price considering I can get an S8+ for like $599 now. For that big of a price gap, I'd go back to Android.

Re: iPhone 8

So, aside from the bezel-free OLED display, steel construction, and FaceID (all of which are very nice features), are there any other feature differences between the 8 Plus and the X? I didn't hear any others during the livestream.

Re: iPhone 8

This is confusing.
They skipped iPhone 7S for iPhone 8 and also have the "premium" iPhone X with no home button?

Without the home button, how do people use the triple-click accessibility feature?

Well that fancy forward facing camera setup is apparently a big deal beyond just facial rec and selfies. Other than that, I don't think there is.

To get to your open apps you apparently swipe up and hold your finger. Doesn't sound very intuitive.

For someone who hasn't paid any attention since I bought the 6 plus, what are the main improvements going to the 8 plus? I'm a sucker for bigger and nicer looking screens, so I probably will get the X and not upgrade that for 3-4 years.

It looks like many of the home button "extra features" (Siri, etc) have been moved to the sleep/wake button, so I assume accessibility will be there as well.

It looked intuitive during the livestream and I believe you can swipe sideways as well to move from app to app.

Well, no task-switching mechanism is going to be inherently intuitive on a phone. Until they were told about it, most iPhone users had no idea that double-pressing the home button did anything. This will be no different.

Think they were saying the camera on the X is a little better than the 8

Re: iPhone 8

What about the Control Center?

Swipe up brings that up. It was a good way to get quick settings like Wi-Fi on/off. That's gone??

You tap the upper right hand corner where it shows the signal. He demonstrated where it's been moved to.

Is it? I thought the X and 8s both had the same dual sensors.

Re: iPhone 8

They're the same, at least according to the specs.

I'm still on a iPhone 5, so may just get the 8plus -- that's a big enough upgrade for me.

Based on the specs in that comparison, they don't.

The 8 Plus and the X have similar back cameras, while the 8 has a slightly different one. X and 8 Plus have dual 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras on the back, while the 8 has only the 12MP wide-angle one. Both the X and 8 Plus have the "Portrait" modes, while the 8 doesn't. Even then, the X has "Dual optical image stabilization" while the 8 and 8 Plus have only "Optical image stabilization".

For the front camera, the 8 and 8 Plus look to have the same, while the X's "TrueDepth camera" has a few extra features, like the "Portrait" modes and Animoji support.

1149 is a lot of money for a phone.

I think the X has a slightly brighter back telephoto lens than the 8 Plus, f2.4 vs f2.8.

I think visually the X will look very different from the 8 Plus, not only because of the absence of the Home button, but also because of the higher aspect ratio (2436 x 1125 vs 1920 x 1080). I haven't seen the new iPhones yet, but I have looked at the Samsung Note 8 which has a similar aspect ratio. The taller shape is quite striking.

Re: iPhone 8

Not due for a new phone for another two years but I checked out these new offerings. $1149 is indeed a lot of money to spend on a phone. But it will be nice to have that big of a screen without having a phone so big that it wont fit in a normal pocket. Don't know how I feel about not having an actual home button, as most of the time the swipe up doesn't seem to work for me. Usually takes a couple of tries to get the flashlight and other swipe up buttons to come up. "Upgraded" camera I dont really care about as the cameras on the iphones still tend to suck anyway.

Re: iPhone 8

iPhone X gets two hours better battery life than the 7, but the 7 battery life sucks. Even two more hours on top of it will be just average battery life.

Also annoying that the air power accessory only works with the series 3 Apple Watch. I'm still using the first gen and not planning to upgrade anytime soon.

It depends on how you use it. My wife still has a 6, and she easily gets 2-3 days out of a charge. But she also isn't on her phone every 15 minutes.

If you are looking to consolidate to a single charging pad, then it could be annoying. But our (now antique) Series 1 Watches still have their own wireless charges, so it isn't the end of the world.

But I am thinking about upgrading anyway. T-Mobile already announced their new Watch plan, and it seems pretty reasonable (it just adds $10 to my existing unlimited plan).

Re: iPhone 8

Yes, the series 1/2 Apple Watches have their own separate chargers and I'm fine using it. However given that the watch already uses wireless charging, it really makes no sense that the older watches cannot be charged on the air power accessory, except as a way to force people to upgrade to a new watch before they really need to.

Re: iPhone 8

Yes, due to X having face recognition. 8 doesn't have that.
