Yeah. All on board processing; no server storage of data. They said chances of someone fudging your print for Touch is 1:50,000; chance for facial is 1:1,00,000...

Oh, and the Apple TV will upgrade your movies to 4k automatically. I believe.

If you already purchased them in 1080. It doesn't upscale, just doesn't make you double dip to get the 4K version of a film you already own.

Can you name another product that numbered its version based on its anniversary year (an not a "X Anniversary edition")?

Yes, let's expect an alternative to the simplest mechanism ever for unlocking your phone.

You want an alternative? Buy an 8 or 8 Plus. But that will likely only get you through one more generation. It is extremely likely that all of their offerings going forward will use Face ID.

Re: iPhone 8

Given that I've broken the glass on my 7 Plus twice I'm not loving the idea of front and rear glass on the X

No, but that is not a relevant question. You cited this as "pulling a Microsoft" when it is plainly obvious that their reason for the name IS the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone, which is nothing like Microsoft arbitrarily skipping "Windows 9".

No rear glass, no wireless charging. That's the trade-off.

Meh, it was mostly a joke on my part. Versioning systems are arbitrary anyway, and iPhones have had an odd versioning scheme up to now. Technically, iPhone 8 is the 10th gen iPhone, not counting side efforts like iPhone 5C or SE, so iPhone X is either the 11th gen or a fancier iPhone 8, depending on how you look at it.

I just found it funny that both companies, for various internal reasons, both opted for skipping version 9 on one of their products.

Re: iPhone 8

Did I miss any release info for the 8? Their store is back up but only shows the 7. I'm still using a 6; looking at the 8+ most likely.

Edit: Nevermind, the store just updated for me.

Pre-order 9.15 Available 9.22

Re: iPhone 8

I'm probably the only one who cares but the animoji feature seemed cool but I use emojis mostly in emails and not text messages. They only showed it with text messages but was that likely to save time or will that be the only place to use that feature?

I would guess it's an iMessage feature? Wonder if they'll work if sending to Android devices.

It seemed to work by making a recording so I can't see why it wouldn't work with email too but I guess not. I know it's probably very trivial to most but I really liked that feature but I just don't text very much.

Oh, I could be wrong. I didn't see the live event, just a live blog with screenshots.

Well, obviously, that's because 7 8 9 (seven ate nine) (yeah, old joke, I know ).

No, you're probably right. Over $1,000 on a new phone and the one stupid feature I really liked, I will almost never get to use.

On a more serious note... the X is interesting, although I really don't like the unibrow at the top.
Still... may consider getting an 8 for my wife. We'll see. She has no interest in the X though.

Re: iPhone 8

Getting an 8 Plus. I'll wait for the X tech to get merged with the regular iPhone line at a lower cost rather than paying a premium for it now. The bezels don't bother me and I like TouchID.
