iOS 11 does offer a proper file management system, something that people have been clamoring for from Apple for years.

I'm likely passing on the 8 or whatever they end up calling it. I like having a home button and Touch ID coupled with the secure enclave is an excellent balance of convenience and security. If the 7s really has 3 GB of RAM, I'll upgrade to the Plus version of that and keep it for at least two years.

Who needs a $1000 phone? It's not a NEED, it's a WANT, and ridiculously overpowered when a $100 phone SHOULD suit most people. It would, if Apple weren't so greedy, and the Apple fanatics weren't so ENTITLED.

Absurd rubbish...

So how is that any different than the Note 8 that runs 965?

Many Android phones moved the fingerprint reader to the back of the phone, including the new Samsungs. There's no reason Apple can't figure out a solution that allows for maximum screen size while also retaining fingerprint scanning. I don't think face scanning is secure enough to switch to a phone that relies on it, and I'd prefer not to type in a long password every time I want to open the phone. 4-6 digit PINs aren't secure enough.

Some of the ARKit things people are making are REALLY cool. This room measuring tool is awesome:

I have a neat app on my phone that does that when you put it against the wall and then move it around the room - this takes that even further.

The ideal solution is to have a through-the-screen fingerprint reader, but as I understand it, it works less well with an OLED screen than LCD. For the iPhone 8, Apple wants to go to OLED because it is a better display, but unfortunately that pushes back the new fingerprint reader. Unintended consequences...

Hence me staying with the 7 or going to the 7s line and skipping the OLED phone.

Re: iPhone 8

They probably need another year to get it to work reliably. OLED is beautiful though, and that's why even Apple had to give in.

Pretty cool. There are a couple devices out now that do something similar, but they run a few hundred bucks.

http://gizmodo.com/apple-just-leaked...-an-1802936703

Surprise! The Golden Master build of iOS 11 leaked online Friday night, with users spreading links to the software on Reddit. It’s full of details about the upcoming line of products being teased for the company’s September 12th event, including that Apple appears poised to skip releasing a 7S line entirely and move directly to the iPhone 8.

Well, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the mysteriously-titled iPhone X.
Maybe Apple really liked Microsoft's Xbox naming

I wonder how well Face ID would work, I've used face unlock stuff before on a phone and wasn't really a fan since the use cases of holding up a phone all the way to my face seemed far less useful them my finger print. It feels more useful on my laptop.

I guess a whole lot of people were able to update to the OS GM on their phones until apple quit signing it around 12:30 am

I know it's Samsung but folks say the Face ID on the galaxy 8 is perfect. Works with sunglasses, hats etc

Re: iPhone 8

Oh i'm not worried about the functionality of Face ID, more so the practicality. I've had face unlock options on my Nexus phones in the past, just never thought it was as useful as the normal methods.

Re: iPhone 8

I'm likely in on the new one. I'm still using a 5S. I almost got a 7, but decided to wait.

Now need to decide if I order, or wait for the all carrier type unlocked to be available for outright purchase.

People have also been able to unlock those phones using pictures, so the security is suspect.

Ha! Apple is pulling a Microsoft and skipping the iPhone 9. We have the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X (ten).

Calling something X on its 10th anniversary is pulling a Microsoft?

Re: iPhone 8

Looks like they have contingency plans with Face ID against what some folks were concerned about.
